So you go to the mind upload center, sit in a chair, they scan your brain and recreate an indistinguishable perfect computer-living version of your mind.
But nigga you're sitting in that chair looking out of your own eyes, that mind in the cloud is it's own thing, your consciousness has nothing to do with it...

If brain uploading is ever a thing we'll end up thinking about dying and the concept of the self in a completely different way. We could have source control for consciousness, so what if there are multiple of you at once? Just git-merge every now and then.We'd start to think of our computer backup as "us" and all the various instances running around as ultimately disposable.

doesn't matter, the soul exists, and its independent of matter and information. the only reason to learn about brain function is to treat diseases or disabilities, i.e. helping deaf people hear again, helping mute people communicate, etc. That project is immensely complicated in the first place, and nowhere close to completion, so any time devoted to fringe larp theories about consciousness is an abhorrent waste of time and a slap in the face to people with real problems.

I think that all this technology will achieve is that you will be able to take the mind of a person, upload it to a computer and then have an AI that uses that mind so you can talk with that AI and it will be similar to what the person was alive. If they want to discover how to live forever they should keep researching in biology, not this.But I don't think the human mind is prepared to live forever or hundreds of years. The person would become insane. Imagine living hundreds or thousands of years until you die from an accident or because someone kills you. You would be bored of everything because you would have seen and experienced everything thousands of times. Human life is just a bunch of activities we repeat over and over again. The things that happen in the world are always the same too: wars, catastrophes, politics, religion, economy, etc. There would be some new things like going to Mars, colonizing it, AIs, robots, human clones and other new technologies never seen before but apart from that everything is always the same. You would see all your love ones and friends die and you would get bored of people too because you would realize that people are more or less the same too.
