It makes sense that London would make a BBC special about "historical" Britain being run by black and muslim kings because that is their current demographics. Same with other major European cities. Anglo-Saxonist here; as far as I can tell this is referring to the fact that there was no coherent Anglo-Saxon identity at the time the various Anglish, Saxon, and Jutish tribes landed in Britain, and it is a label applied retroactively. This is then reported with the media's usual accuracy in scientific reporting. The article being paywalled, that's my best bet.
