How can people still be religious?
I come from a very religious country, used to ask tough questions as a kid and would get reprimanded for asking them.
I'd search online and not find any answers, and slowly all those doubts and questions piled on to me not taking any of it seriously.
I see it as just cultural heritage that people use for social capital among their peers... It kinda is, but people also really believe it without thinking too much
I don't get it

I'm a Christian because the evidence indicates that it is a historical fact that Jesus rose from the dead. Have you ever read any books or listened to any lectures/debates by scholars who argue for the evidence for Christianity?>Used to ask tough questions as a kid and would get reprimanded for asking them.
I find this to be odd. If I were to ask questions or raise doubts, my pastors and church leaders would respond by welcoming the questions and providing additional resources that would give me the evidence I wanted and answer the questions I had. What country are you from? What religion were you raised as?

tradition and culture are powerful forces. some very intelligent people reason themselves into faith, something which is completely arational. it'd be funny if religion wasn't used for nefarious ends.

religion may not be real or logical, but it's about more than being right. It's a way for communities to form and keep themselves in check. To ensure that people act with good intention and have peace of mind about the things we don't understand. From that perspective, it makes sense to believe even if it doesn't make sense. I wish there was a god because an unfeeling and cold universe just kinda sucks desu.

no rational faith would chastize you for being curious about God's creation
you were subject to dogma and control
to the extent that God is absolute truth, which is obviously necessary, questioning things can never be bad when done in good faith
for refining our knowledge and more closely approaching the truth brings us closer to God

>How can people still be religious?
Tradition (low IQ appeal to the group)
Social (low IQ status building)
Actual belief (80 IQ retardation, failed the skepticism test of life)In a vacuum with zero social pressure from peers and parents absolutely no one would join a religion if they had the choice.>Hey, want to play a dangerous game of make-believe with angry idiots who will attack you if you break the illusion?
Fuck no I don't.

Because you have to believe in something. I'm coming to the conclusion that you have to even if it's a big cope, because all the other big copes are not really worth it: materialism, hedonism, antidepressants, drugs or alcohol, etc etcDid man invent god? Maybe. Man need to invent a reason to fill the void, if not the void will fill itself with tremendous bullshit that will eat you alive.

The only actual unanswered and unanswerable question is God's motivation. If you are a materialist soience believer that just means you lack life experience to believe anything else, which is itself God's will.

1. religion, better than anything else, carries human lessons and wisdom forward across generations and across communities. the way you live and behave in a functioning human civilization is currently based on the stories passed down through what we call religion, the rest is cope.2. secular people still fill their heads with irrational beliefs and fill in the gaps with mysticism. some think life is based on luck, some blindly trust scientific publications or government organizations or leaders of ideological movements, and others just watch tranime all day and escape into various fantasies. as long as you haven't fallen for some form of nihilism it's fine to be secular, but you're probably not special in what you end up believing in. nihilists are just mentally ill.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you mean man-made cults specifically.
The reason is most people are retarded and will simply accept anything an authority figure tells them. That's it.
You can come up with armchair sociological explanations but it's really just that people are stupid. Some of the stupid people will come across authority figures that show them inconsistencies in the teachings of their local organized religion; that's how you get atheists.
