For some reason it's hard to find information about this.
I randomly remembered some obscure show I saw when I was 4 or 5 and the idea of actually watching it is horrifying. I don't think I can bring myself to do it. It's like this with a lot of shows from that era. It's just this deep discomfort and dread. But how come it's not like that with something like early viral internet videos or online games I played?
I've been diagnosed with C-PTSD which I think is bullshit because my childhood really was not that bad, relatively speaking. It makes me wonder, did something happen to me that I can't remember? But repressed memories are largely a myth, so it can't be that. I can listen to Rick Astley or play Poptropica and it mostly feels "nostalgic", but the second I try to watch JoJo's Circus I get this feeling like "I really really should not be seeing this" and it makes my skin crawl.

This happened to me when I saw the Ecco the Dolphin intro for the first time since I was a kid. That game was horrifying and the setting I was in and the way I played it was all actually terrifying. So basically I used to walk to this girls house and she lived extremely far away, I usually would get off the school bus at that stop.
Her parents would just let me inside, it didn't matter if she answered the door or even knew I was there. I would beeline straight to the den/basement where the Sega was an fire up Ecco and play until dark.
The den would be pitch black dark. The girl wouldn't even be in the room with me. Then I also had to be home by dark, so I was always terrified I was gonna get in trouble.
I don't even have memories of getting back from her house. I must've been on a bike.

It could be some traumatic association, yes. It could also be some form of cognitive dissonance type of thing, whereby you expect certain things to evoke certain emotions that you felt before, but you process the input completely differently due to having grown up and essentially becoming a different person, so the clash between the two interpretations might feel like something is deeply wrong with your reality, like a bad dream where things are oddly familiar but eerily altered in a way you cannot explain.
