It has been 2000 years since the Black Knight tore open the last of the great portals and trampled the worlds of the Weld with his unstoppable warband. As his band crushed the native kingdoms and nations, burned the banners of ancient orders and sects, and laid to waste the effigies of the gods, the Black Knight did not remain to rule over these broken lands. He rode ever onward, allowing the shattered peoples to rebuild under the shadow of the dark rider. New standards flew over reconstructed walls, men of arms kneeled at the feet of new monarchs, cities rose to glisten in the moonlight, and all throughout the Weld those who had rode alongside the Black Knight departed to carve out a niche that they saw fit. But none would find dominance, for without warning or reason the Black Knight and his cohort would ride again to despoil the realms. It is under these times that our tale brings us to a busy inn along the road Ghenthun, linking the odd trails of Onsev to its two largest portals. Sleeping gravcars and beasts of burden huddle within the confines of the stables as the warm lights of the inn shine against the haze of the cool and cloudy day. The patrons of this meager establishment turn or shiver as the door swings open, bringing in a breeze and… >A figure suited in plate armor, a knight in unassuming grey bereft of heraldry or insignia. The hooded trio moves without clamour through the bar and its occupants. A wide berth being given to the broad shouldered being leading the three, its two eyes narrowed in focus as it took the lead. To the back a single piercing monoeye swivels inside of the hood of its cloak before refocusing on its escort. The guarded figure’s glance moves across the entirety of the tavern’s insides, sharp eyes taking in all they passed over.As the three file into an unoccupied booth, they relax into their seats, pushing back their hoods. In the middle, flanked by her two guards, Princess Jinseri lets out a long exhale for a journeythat has just begun but is already…>Unbearably Miserable >Fantastically Exciting

Exhilarating! Just leaving Haz-Aldervann had brought more excitement than you expected to have the entire year. Between taking the rocket sled to Brasstown and fending off footpads on their way to Strumm, this trip was turning out like an adventure novel you’d read to pass time. You turn towards Dommelaze as his single eye swivels to face you.“What do you think will beset us next? I hope it’s something with wings.” You ponder as your other bodyguard, Hajeckson, leaves the booth and heads towards the bar.“You are treating this far too flippantly Princess. We must do everything we can to ensure your safe and speedy arrival to L’Burehn.” Dommelaze speaks in a whisper after his eye flies across his metal face. You give your cyborg retainer a frown. “Do you doubt our skills are enough to bring us there safely? And what’s with your secrecy, the Asterich Kingdom has no enemies beyond its realm.” You assure him.“But you are still royalty, and we do not need any cutthroat following us in the hopes of capturing you for ransom.” Dommelaze reminds you, which dampens your spirits some as you nod in agreement. “And I did not have the luxury of witnessing your skills in our last scuffle, can you be so certain in your abilities?”Of course you can! You’ve had to train in all methods of dueling, and your skill with… >Sabre >Pistol >Spell Was beyond praiseworthy.

“You know the caliber of armsmen my father hires, and those that trained me said my sabre skills are beyond reproach.” You lecture Dommelaze smuggly. “Not to mention my shooting and magic.” You proudly declare.“We would still be better served if they go unused. Remember your duty to your father.” The cyborg replies. You let out a sigh as you relax back into the booth. Your focus is temporarily drawn to Hajeckson returning with drinks. He places a glass filled with a translucent liquid in front of you, slides a metal can to Dommelaze, and sits with a wooden mug. The three of take your beverages, you take in the slightly sweet liquid, feeling a hint of orange in it as your mind wanders to the duty previously mentioned. You remember being there besides your bed bound father, his body pale with red scabs covering his skin. It was hard to look at him, harder still when the chief doctor’s ScalBird busied itself pecking and eating the growths. Such a nasty illness crimson plague was. Regardless you stood and listened intently as he left the honor of representing the kingdom to its allies at L’Burehn this year. You were most grateful he had given you written instructions over what to discuss there. Talks of trade and cooperative construction, but most importantly the king’s opinions on the infamous Black Knight and the warband he has been organizing. As your recollection is brought back to the present by your nearly empty glass. You take the initiative to inquire into your compatriots about transportation.“There are only a few here we can safely trust for travel, others who might ferry us with haste but their speed comes with danger.” Hajeckson speaks as you follow his gaze.“The trader’s freighter has spare room, he will get us beyond the portal without trouble, however it will be a slow journey.” You look at an unassuming human in a jumpsuit, colored a boring brown and marked with a few patches.“The coachman’s motorcarriage will get us to Strumm quickly, but no further and we still risk brigands.” A man with a thick beige coat wearing a seamless knitted cap and goggles enjoys sipping from a mug.“The Gravhead is willing to take us all the way to L’Burehn, however I doubt it will be a smooth or straight ride.” You see a man with slicked back white hair and a red pleather jacket sucking down a bubbling green brew.“Finally the Eviran says she could take us with her as far as El-Unye, and with an aircar it will be the fastest option for us. I also would rather not trifle with whatever may be following her.” The knife-eared woman leans against the bar, no drink beside her as a hand rests on the gun tucked away into her leather holster. You think her red eyed gaze meets yours behind the falling locks of blonde hair.>Freighter >Motorcarriage >Gravcar >Aircar

Rolled 1 (1d3)“We’ll take the gravcar, transport all the way to L’Burehn will serve us best.” You decide. Your two guards grunt in acknowledgement, tending to the last of their drinks before exiting the booth with you.The three of you approach the driver, who idles with his hands stuck in his jacket’s pockets. He turns towards Hajeckson.“So here’s the passengers." He says as he turns his attention towards you and smirks. “Name’s Mack, big lug here says you’re going to L’Burehn, bit of a trip but I’ll get ya there quick.” He motions to the bar’s exit with his head.As the three of you follow him you elect to interrogate the driver for some more details. “So just how fast is your gravcar, and how much are you expecting us to pay for this service?”“Oh she’s fast, quad-pulse generator and a Vendreedian repulsor suite, to say nothing of the body.” He starts to boast about things you have no clue about. He takes a hand out of his pocket to scratch at his chin after your second question.“Just something to cover the mileage upfront…” He begins before pushing open the door as the four of you step out into the cold. “Maybe a hundred bucks, or whatever you’ve got that’s around that.” He says as he gestures with one hand. “I’ll think of the total when we get there.”While you’re trying to guess how much that total would be in gold coin, you’re left as surprised as your driver as Dommelaze tosses a small pouch at the man. He fumbles the bag but snatches it with his other hand before peeking into it.“I trust that will be enough.” Your cyborg companion speaks.“Aye, it will.” Your new transporter says as he closes the sack and stuff it in his pant pocket. With that he leads you to a sleek gravcar, painted red with a white stripe running straight from hood to trunk. He withdraws the keys and lets the vehicle hum to life as he opens the door and hops in. Dommelaze circles around the car as Hajeckson opens the door for you. Inside the three of you are left sitting in moderately sized leather seats, still alert as the gravcar whirrs with activity. It swiftly exits the lot and ascends a few feet into the air before Mack rockets the vehicle over the road leading to Strumm.(Roll 3 1d100s)

Rolled 1 (1d3)The ride is breathtaking, the agile gravcar zips over the drab of the land and rocks side to side as the driver tries to follow the road cut into the ground while going at a speed you could only hazard to guess. You’re so enamored by the sight of the outside turning to blurs that it’s only when the gravcar levels out that you realize how much you’ve been clambering over your travelling partners to look out the windows. You give the two of them a slightly embarrassed apology to which they dutifully accept. As the gravcar settles into a steady flight, your gaze is drawn to the front of the window. Spires of steel, glass and concrete rise out of the horizon and reflect the grey of the overcast day in their reflection. Mack brings the gravcar low, tapping away at something as the car passes through the streets of Strumm. You take in the alien lights and names written across in signs and advertisements, before your gaze is pulled back the front window as the immense swirling energies of the city’s great portal. Reality flashes as the gravcar drives into the opening, exiting into the morning sun of Strumm’s sister city Triston. As Mack takes the gravcar out of the city and back into the air, speeding over the plains of the world, he takes a glance back to speak to you and your companions.“So why are the three of ya heading to L’Burehn anyways?”>Answer him >Don’t(Roll 3 1d100s)
