I've always thought foreigners speaking their own languages are just doing it to be as obnoxious as humanly possible.I really think it should just be against the law to teach any other language first before English. Learn the world language first and then AFTER that, if you're really so interested, you can learn your native language as an elective. But first you need to learn something fucking useful.

That's non-sense. My Japanese is piss poor, and I still had very little issues. At the hotel reception, everyone speaks English. At most tourist attractions, there's some security standing around that speaks English. The only place where you're kinda shit out of luck is stuff like super markets (but you don't actually need to speak to anyone), pharmacies (they use translation devices but they are kinda shit) and small family run restaurants (you can just point at whatever you want).

There does need to be a worldwide trade language. I get that you're prideful, but at the end of the day it's a necessary fact if you want to be a global power. Japanese people are braggarts about being a fellow first world nation, but they're too insular and xenophobic to successfully navigate worldwide industry. How many decades did the anime trend spread through the US before a salaryman finally figured out a way to monetize it? 4 decades? Japs lose so much money being obstinate and insular.
