I’d like to share with you the thoughts of Ukrainian expert Vadym Denysenko.Trump’s statement following his meeting with Zelenskyy shows that his goal is to stop the war along the current front line. The main question now is what Putin’s response will be.1. Russian media have completely ignored Trump’s statement about the front line. Such unanimity is only possible with a direct order from the Kremlin. In these situations, the Kremlin typically uses one of three tactics:▪It provides its own interpretation;▪It allows the media to drown out an inconvenient story in a flood of speculation and guesses, then later selects three or four narratives that gained the most traction, so everyone fills in the blanks themselves;▪Or it simply switches to “silence mode.” As of now (12 hours after Trump’s statement), we’re seeing exactly that - silence mode.2. It’s still difficult to say what this silence means. It could indicate preparation to agree to this formula, or preparation to reject it publicly during the Budapest meeting.3. Trump’s conversation with Zelenskyy seems to have been a kind of ultimatum, with the following points:▪Trump aims to achieve a ceasefire along the front line;▪He is willing to concede to some of Putin’s demands - such as allowing Russian-backed parties to participate in Ukrainian elections, restoring the Russian Orthodox Church’s operations, granting Russian language rights, withdrawing certain lawsuits, and partially lifting sanctions. It’s still unclear what demands Russia might make regarding the reduction of Ukraine’s missile program, as well as its military and defense industry. If an agreement is reached, presidential elections (possibly combined with parliamentary elections) could be held within 45 days.>part 1
