Hello my friends! We had some productive discussions about OLPF and moire effects in previous threads.
I am trying to understand why sony sensors produce this exceptionally strong false colour striping on such patterns. I don't see it on other cameras without OLPF.
Might it be related to differences in microlens design? PDAF pixels?

What camera bags do you use? I fell for the marketing and imported wotancraft pilot 7l. It's a great bag but should be about half of its price to make sense.

For it to appear on a Nikon is much harder though, almost like Sony fucked up

After a year of photography/gearfagging, I will have to admit he's right and I am getting quite annoyed at excessive background blur. I used to think it was cool and I've spent a lot of money on fast lenses, but... why? It looks like shit. Are fast lenses a modern/AF obsession? I don't see how anyone was manually-focusing even f1.4 lenses back in the SLR days before electronic focus aids, unless they were shooting everything at infinity focus, or shooting from a tripod, because even the natural swaying of your body back and forth will cause you to lose focus. When did you stop giving a shit about fast lenses? IBIS and modern sensors seem to have made up most of the difference in low light, which is the only other reason they exist.

How do you feel about them?

Could you recommend me a compact camera to casually photograph concerts with? "Professional" cameras are typically not allowed, but I'd like something better than a phone. Preferrably something cheap-ish just in case the camera breaks in a moshpit or something. Good zoom is a plus.

Anon09/28/26, 11:48No.4531250
cheap-ish is relative.

Used this setup for some 8x10 direct positive headshots. Came out lovely. Glowing, soft, even lighting with a touch of contrast to keep things interesting. Pretty catch light in the eyes.
One grid for background, one grid hair light, keylight is the mola setti beauty dish with a sock, and the curved reflector to reduce shadows under the chin and act as a very mild kicker for opposite side of the keylight.
I used a 4800ws strobe at full power just for the key light, and a second 2400ws pack split between the two gridded strobes. f5.6 was right on the money for the exposure.Chose to use a 270mm meyer & co schnellarbeiter F3 petzval. I was photographing my younger nephew so I didn't want it to be too soft/dreamy. Tip of nose to a little behind the chin was in focus. Everyone loved them.
The extreme detail of 8x10 portraiture creates really striking and powerful portraits. It's like you're looking into someones soul. It's really intense and beautiful, especially with b&w.Once I get my darkroom built out I'll have my whole shop organized and Ill be able to have a much nicer and professional looking area dedicated to portraiture. This works just fine for seated portraits. What sort of lighting setups have you guys been using lately?

each company having their own mount doesnt provide any value except money to the camera companies. they all should use the same one
A
Anon09/29/26, 16:19No.4531545
This whole discussion of sharing one mounting system is literally just XKCD #927
>There are now 14 competing standards
The best mounting system is the one my brand uses. That way when everyone has to use the mounting system I already use, then I can keep using all my lenses.

This is the amount of distortion XF18 f/1.4 produces. This is a RAW with no lens corrections. With in camera corrections it's pretty much perfectly straight and sharp corner to corner.

camera is a flop
not even top 15 pre-order on B&H
all they had to do was put a corner EVF and they had an A7C killer.
instead they downgraded the screen resolution from the z5ii LOL

a GFX-sized medium format sensor would technically fit inside the Z mount. Would they ever do it?

I fell for the meme. It is my first full frame digital camera and my first Nikon. Compared to my Panasonic G9II...
>front and rear dials are terrible. The front dial is pushed too far in, you can only get 4-5 clicks before having to reset your finger. And it is mushy and not satisfying. The rear dial is a bit better but the way the thumb grip area is designed blocks your thumb from spinning it easily.
>The ISO dial is retarded. You spin the front wheel (while holding the iso button) to change from auto to manual, and the back wheel to change the actual iso once in manual mode. Retarded, just put it all on one dial
>buttons are generally mushy.
>RAW files were coming from the camera corrupted. I haven't updated the firmware on the camera or it could be my linux. I am not the only one with the issue.
>NO FUCKING USB MASS STORAGE OVER USB-C! FUCK YOU NIKON! No, they don't list it on their spec list. I have to pull the card out of my camera and plug it into a card reader which I then plug into my laptop like a fucking monkey. I cannot write any info (like a firmware update) to the sd card without the card reader.
These are only my first impressions. I will update in the next thread. So far I am not happy and my G9II takes a shit on this thing.

I remember when gearfags were coolThey'd make their micro four thirds look almost as good as their FF and still call mft shit
Today's gearfags take a wide open snapshit of a bug/garden plant with their FF and say its worse than mft because of the button feel or something
>but i have to shoot wide open to justify the sensor size

I use the gear thread as a coping mechanism for wasting my money on an inferior product. Buyers remorse is real. I am a filthy casual that just enjoys cool tech gadgets and have no desire to pursue photography as an art or creative pursuit.

Why would you want to write to a cameras memory cards from the USB portTheyre right, thats a security flaw and it doesnt have anything to do with using the camera properly
