I've spent about 2 years shooting with a beat up canon 70d I got on craigslist and I'm ready to drop some money on a new camera. I've narrowed my choices down to these two because of the following: - Rugged and actually weather sealed - I like the build quality, feel and color rendering of the lenses (HD pentax D-FAs and the OM pro f/2.8s) - Comfortably in my budget used (with lenses) I'm leaning more towards the OM because I will be backpacking a lot and the weight savings are attractive (especially with telephoto), however I'm willing to put up with the weight if the pentax will have outstandingly better image quality. My use-case will be travel with a bit of wildlife photography, I will shoot everything in RAW and edit, and all of my photos will be shared online or printed to a max of 11x17". I also never carry a tripod/monopod. Some of my pros for each system: OM-1 >lightweight and compact >m43 wider DOF >more variety of modern glass >cheaper telephoto options K-1ii >higher resolution (can crop for wildlife) >better dynamic range and color depth >better in low light? I'm sure everyone will tell me to go full frame and go to the gym but I was hoping to get some additional perspective, ideally from someone who has owned both FF and modern m43. Some additional points: -I know they are both dead systems -No I will not get a canon/nikon/sony Thanks for your time

I have OG K-1. It is a great camera paired with the FA 43/1.9. I also have the D-FA 150-450 and it is great for wildlife as well, with the HD DA 1.4xTC you can only use crop mode due to the vignetting but it still produces a good sharp image. About the mirror vibrations, I heard about Canon and Nikon having them but through the years I used this I have never had any such problems. The mirrorflip is also very quiet and contained. Burst mode is not the greatest, for that you want to look at the K-3MkIII

If you shooting mostly wildlife I would say that the OM1ii has the better telephoto options and better tracking auto focus. Specifically the 40-150 f2.8 and the 300 f4 are very good. That being said both cameras are very good and are the most weather resistant options/brands on the market. Nikon is also pretty sealed but not as much as OM and Pentax. Don't trust the resident schizo that says they have more sealing. The biggest Nikon downside is that it's expensive and the lenses are very over corrected and heavy. They waste way to many pounds on unnecessary optical layers.

the om-1 has like 7 stops of stabilization, you wont need a tripod with it and it will make a difference when you're doing telephoto/macro stuff. Plus has a fully articulating screen and can be charged with a power bank on the go. Those alone would be my personal selling points.

Get Pentax K1ii. The body isn't where the bulk of the weight is, it's the lenses. And K1ii works pretty well with APS-C lenses when that weight matters. And further, Pentax lenses tend to be among the lighter and smaller lenses anyway. OMS lenses are unnecessarily big trying to chase MTF at wide open. The IQ of the K1ii will blow the OM1 out of the water. We're talking about a sensor almost 4x the size, an outdated m43 sensor vs. one of the best sensors ever made, sitting alongside the D810 and D850, that modern cameras are only just now starting to surpass. Astrophoto features are cool. And Pentax Limited lenses are unlike anything available on any other system.If you really want something smaller and lighter, the Pentax K3iii is something to consider, too. Better autofocus with more AF coverage. Still great IQ. Pentax has kind of implied they're intending the K1 series to be for wedding, portraiture, landscape, etc. style photographers, and the K3iii and hypothetical K3iv to be for action/sports/wildlife photographers. As a bonus, the modern lens lineup is more fleshed out on Pentax's APS-C cameras, whereas a lot of their FF lenses are just updated film lenses. The KP is a favorite camera, too. It's kind of meant as an EDC camera for K1 owners. Will still beat the OM-1 in IQ.
