wife and I have very little experience /out/ing. Done some light mountain hiking once in new mexico and modest traveling in thailand but thats about it. We're gonna try some primitive camping at a nearby state park. Any tips? Our plan is to hike around the park during the day and find a good spot to build a camp, set up a lien-to and build a fire pit. Any other fun beginner primitive camping accomplishments we can try? I suck at fishing but I'm gonna try and catch-and-cook at the parks lake.

start with day hikes and car camping in places that have bathrooms, ease into it.

My advice is to not do those things. They are all destruction of the park.Also - make sure your wife knows how to piss and shit out of doors. Make sure your wife knows she won't get a hot bath for a few days. This last is the main reason my wife will never go backpacking.
