Another fine sized one.
I think the first one I brought in was the biggest, but it got off the hook and dashed as I bent down. There was a big ole one tailing it too that would’ve been a fight.

I've gotten burnt out on fishing. I've lost my killer instinct, but fishing is pretty much all there is in my life, which is why I still go out. Just pulled up to a new stream. Hips and back hurt, so I'm just chilling in my trunk for a bit. Getting into fishing was one of the greatest things in my life. I hope to get hooked again.

Is this a common problem, or am I doing something wrong?
My FG knot is solid, but after a couple of hours of going through the guides, the Rizzuto finish undoes its self slightly until there is enough of a tag end to stop that, at which point it frays like pic rel.
If I do nothing to the frayed tag end, it usually stays solid, but it’s annoyingly ugly and I assume can cause a problem.
If I trim it off again, the finish usually continues to undo itself, and can eventually compromise the FG knot itself.
Any advice or experience?

I just decided to get back into fishing. i used to fish with a rod/reel with lures. I barely caught anything which is disheartening. I just moved and there's quite a lot of non-predatory freshwater fish. I want to fish with the same rod/reel combo and use a float. What kind of rig should i make? I'd like to be able to quickly swap between the float setup and lures.

Went fishing with my son, just walking around a quiet lake, small hook and a split shot, both using little 4lb test setups, letting chunks of worm sit on the bottom until bluegill sucked them up. We fried them whole for supper. I fucking miss simple fishing.

I'm not super worried because I already did it and caught fish just fineWhen replacing treble hooks on lures with single hooks- does it matter at all whether you use hooks with normal eyes versus inline eyes? Some schizos are telling me inline is the only way the action of the lure works properly, but I had already changed all mine to basic circle hooks and it worked just fine, didnt miss any hookups that I wouldn't have missed anyway, didn't snag anything, etcdoes it matter?

Anon08/21/26, 20:24No.2878144
Based off the responses, I think I’ll stick with a mono mainline for the time being. The extra casting distance and sensitivity would be an improvement but there’s a fuckton of structure at the pier I usually go to. It’s surrounded by reefs and I see other regulars, most of which have braid spooled up, get cut off from having fish swim off into the reef or under the pier.
I like getting personal anecdotes and experiences over reading random online posts so much appreciated lads.

Got a new conundrum on my hands.
>found out Academy is doing a promotion where you get $15 off your first online order ($15 minimum)
>e.g. you can fill your cart with stuff that’s $16 total and using the coupon you’d only pay the difference
>essentially free tackle
>you also receive a $15 off coupon if it’s the month of your birthday
>be me, looking to replace my fishing hoodie since it got stained from squid ink and got mangled from stray hooks
>find out I can’t stack the two $15 coupons to get $30 off the upf hoodie I was eyeing
So here I am. Thoughts on this setup? I’m looking to make a dedicated rod for catching bait fish after seeing some guys reel them up by the dozens last time I went pier fishing. We’re talking 3-4+ 2-3+ inch blue runners/goggleyes/other bait fish every cast during prime time. Think this setup would suffice? I’ve never used any big name reels from Daiwa/Shimano/Penn/etc- or any non-rod & reel included combo reels for that matter.
Would it be worth spending $30-ish on this setup?

Out on a river this evening, crystal clear waters. Got a good sized carp for dinner. Was frustrating at first because I got snagged several times in some rocky sections. But I finally reached a good clearing in the bush and found a spot where the water was deeper and bottom sandy. Saw some decent eels and at one point watched a platypus do some fishing of its own.

I’m trying to think of what tackle is useful or necessary besides line, hooks, swivels, snaps, and etc. I want to use that $15 Academy coupon on tackle like swivels and whatnot since I need some, but it’s pretty easy buying bulk swivels and hooks for cheap on Amazon (e.g. 100 for $5). On the other hand, stuff like lead sinker weights are more expensive online so I’m thinking of getting one or two for a Carolina rig.
That said, what oz egg sinker should I use if I’m rigging live bait fish that’re around 1-2ish inches? I used a 4 oz pyramid sinker the first time I tried the rig and caught a decent barracuda, but it seems most of my live bait fish die rather quickly. Not sure if that has to do with the weight of the sinker or anything.

I think sometimes I'm too retarded for this hobby, I haven't caught a fish at all this summer. Every time I go out I get snagged, lose or break lures.
Today I literally saw fish feeding top water right near me and no matter what I threw not a single bite, but I did manage to lose a spinner. A certain point it stops being relaxing and fun and I just leave frustrated and bug bitten.
I can crush it during ice fishing season but I cannot for the life of me get the hang of shore fishin' in warmer weather.
