I've also noticed over time the female flowers it's producing are getting bigger and are more likely to bloom.

I made the mistake of not reading the Miracle Gro Cactus/Citrus/Avocado soil bag. It was for in-ground use not for potting. My avocado trees struggled. I repotted after amending the soil with pumice, perlite, and horticultural sand. It's been 2 weeks since. One is stalled, but no more leaf droop. The other one has new shoots and leaves.I may need to amend the soil for the stalled one with coco coir or put it in a grow bag to allow more air to reach the roots.

Hello againHas anyone grown Petunias before or had any success with glow in the dark plants or fungi/anything living like thr Firefly Petunia?According to Google, despite earlier sayings that the plants were sterile, they can be hybridized and produce seeds. But apparently the chance of the children, flowers, having seeds that glow is less likely. I'm still very interested in splicing glowing, the dark genes into plants.Unfortunately, it seems like they're out of stock mainly right now. I've thought about buying them before when they were released a year or 2 ago, but the reviews were not stellar, but it seems like now some people have had some success with themThere is the added caveat that technically , you're not supposed to sell the seeds or give them away in mass quantities commercially which I can sort of understand but seems impractical , when nature is gonna do what nature is gonna do

Hello /hgm/, I moved into a house with a lot of fruit trees left from the previous owner. I have 1 female fig, 1 lemon, 3 orange, 1 peach, 2 pomegranate, 2 grape fruit, 3 small plums, and a pear. I foolishly trimmed some of the trees in the growing season instead of the winter. But anyways, the varieties of fruit that these trees give suck. the plums are sour and the grapefruit is also I want to learn more about grafting so I can graft better varieties to these trees. im actuall pretty sure that the cherry is an overgrown mirabelle plum that the rootstock took over. and the peach is the result of some peach pit being thrown into the garden. thank you for reading my blog

Mom wanted me to mix some dirt and soil last year tossed in some four o'clock seeds just because, and a year later for these. They managed without watering for a year and this is them after a month of some wood chips and shade cloth.Really fine and alkaline dirt. It's nearly sand for much of it, but it retains some moisture. The weeds are kept around it for some chop and drop and wind protection for now.If these keep up enough to make a nice canopy, I want to add some prairie wine cups and flax for a ground layer. Started mixing some cottonwood leaf litter and a bag of expired soil in the sandy spots too.

I've been hosing it and flooding greenhouse the trenches I dug between some of them.I'll be moving onto 40 acres in a month or two. Just in time to prep fir next spring. Project Amaranth begins.>Backstory I moved into a lot 6 years ago that the owner didn't tell me they had put some kind of chemicals in the yard that would make sure NOTHING grows. It's something people use in driveways or some shit I guess, that's what my neighbor told me at least.Even though my landlord deadified the lawn, he INSISTED that I seed and water it every single year or he'll start "fining me".>Years 1-3 Absolutely nothing would grow, I spent entire summers fertilizing and seeding for nothing but weeds to grow.>Years 3-5 I introduced cornflower seeds to the yard, some of them took but ultimately it was only a couple.>Year 6, this year I grew 2 containers with amaranth "love lives bleeding" plants at the start of spring. I harvested the seeds two weeks ago. What was 50 seeds in a packet spread between 2 pots, was 1/5 of a salad bowl of harvested seeds. >I spread amaranth seeds over my entire fucking lawn >Watered heavily >They're actually sprouting at least in patches Fucking finally, this shit should help with my awful soil and it will self seed infinitely.TL;DR Fuck you landlord enjoy never getting rid of these amaranth. /hgm/ i feel very stupid. I usually grow lots of banana peppers and just a few regular bell peppers but this year i decided to swap and do more bells.I have a few bonnie green bells and then 2 sets of 4 pack ones i got that have different varieties. (purple/orange/red/yellows). I know that the peppers will ripen to those colors but the purple ones came in already purple. The other 3 varieties seem to be staying green for a very very long time. In fact, none of them have ripened on the vine yet.My question is, am i supposed to be pruning them in some way? I thought i saw something about trimming the leaves above them to let in more sun, but I also get pretty much all day sun on them so I'm afraid they'll get sun scorched.Or is it just that i should keep leaving them on the vine until they do ripen?

My fig (var. brown turkey) needs feeding. I've seen all sorts of advice for different types of feed. Only use high potassium in spring, use a combo of x y and z until it fruits. Shit like that. My tree is in its first year, so I'm not expecting any fruit. The leaves are yellowing. What should I feed it? Will general plant fertiliser do the trick?

I'm pretty constantly getting that cracking on some of my red medium sized tomatoes. I believe it comes from inconsistent waterings so I guess I'll have to work on that next year (but most of my other tomatoes, even the medium sizes orange ones don't have that)Next year, I'd like to get some larger tomatoes but i've been noticing that a lot of mine that I thought would be bigger aren't getting that big. So, for the first time ever, my favas have been infested with what appears to be bean weevils (bruchus rufimanus). They are not native to where i live and have only very recently in this decade started to spread here, so neither me or anyone i know have much experience with them. Right now they affect maybe about 1-3% of my harvest. How harmful can they become at worst? I don't think they make the crop unedible or anything, but do they decrease the shelf life? I assume the affected beans won't make very good seeds? Do they only affect fava beans or are peas also at risk? What can i do about them, if anything? Are there some things i should consider with storage and crop rotation?

Month long dry stretch, then 4 inches of rain this week. We don't really need it this time of year, but it will be good for the parks the city decided not to water this summer as a cost cutting measure. Gumbo under a few inches of top soil so the ground can't retain much water before hitting the relatively imperiable layer and either pool or run off.

Trying out passive hydroponics with the Kratky method, I've never seen basil germinate so fast (pic is day 4) but I need to find a place with more light I think. Using coco coir and a random dry nutrient mix (7-2-8) + a bit of pH up. Tourist here, not a gardener by any means. Last year, I grew a slip from a store-brought sweet potato out of curiosity and moved it outside this year. It seems to be growing just fine (although that's just looking that the leaves). With October is approaching, what do I do with the plant? I know curing is a thing and am interested in learning more about it. However, if I want to grow sweet potatoes year after year, do I need to do that whole process again, of propagating slips? Or could I leave it in the soil over the winter and it'll sprout up by springtime (this is in a 6B zone)?
