The only real tradeoff is location. Many states won’t allow you to live in a cabin unless it lives up to certain codes. The workaround in many places is to buy a place that’s zoned for agriculture. The price is right though. Especially if you have a good work from home job or the money saved

You can. You just need to take into consideration food, water, electricity (if you so choose), heating, how to cover costs for things that you can’t/won’t source yourself. You also need to consider your own morale. Having lived in a cabin for several years, it’s actually quite psychologically demanding, so you need some way to keep your head screwed on straight.

I find myself in a somewhat lucky situation to live in the middle of nowhere but haviung neighbors drives me crazy. Whoever was here before me build two sheds into the forest nearby, these must be older than myself (assuming D-Mark price tags) and likely illegal themselves. But no one ever cared.My long temr goal otherwise is renting a forest house / holiday home for permanent residency but the problem is they usually have no registerable adress. 20-30 m2 would suffice if I had enough land, I intend to build a greenhouse and live in it anyway.

AYO BACON CEB. Compressed earth block. It's the shit trust me. Like rammed earth construction. But much more convenient. Simply test your soil in several spots, if needed find a working combination and mix, press, press, press blocks all day long, once dry use clay / loam plaster to lay bricks. If desired minimal addition of cement gives extra compression strength. Press can be made to make hollow bricks, interlocking features and what not. Would not ever again want to do earth walls any other way.

They're generally far away from jobs and family. That's the only reason really, oh, and "adequate plumbing" generally means it works okay for when you're using it a weekend a month but it'll quickly start showing wear when used more regularly, but that's something you can upgrade over the years.
