It's polite but outdated to prioritize yielding to women on the trail similar to how you might yield to a woman in a doorway at a store.Otherwise, generally whoever is closest to the uphill side yields, since the downhill side of the trail hurts more if you fall off of it.Nothing needs to be said, but a polite nod of the head, or "good day" will never be received poorly.Remember, many people will be exercising on trails, and prefer to manage their breath rather than interact. There are also societal factors that disincentivize women to reply to strange men.Silence isn't a condemnation of your actions.If you want to meet women who like hiking, put it on your profiles, and look for local groups that offer open to the public hikes.
