on a semi related note. why is it that at bottlneck sections of the trail i always invariably seem to get stuck behind a woman whos butt is prominently displayed and i have to awkwardly figure out where to direct my gaze until i can find a wide section of the trail to turbo past them.. its hard being a creepy hairy guy sometimes.

For my entire life hiking in the UK I would greet women like any other human being: say "hello" or "hi" which they say back and you walk past each other and that's fine.Since 2020 there has been a trend of young women wearing inappropriate clothing, and if you say "hi" or anything at all to them or notice they exist they act like you killed their family, because they never hiked before and are only doing so now for performative reasons. So basically, you should ignore them.These are Instagram thots who never hiked before and don't care about hiking or nature or anything, they're just going to get pictures of themselves wearing very little clothing in particular locations. I have learned that they tend to not be there in wet or cold weather or in non-tourist areas, so it's better to get off the beaten track since these "new hikers" are kind of shit and only there for a lewd photo shoot.

I've been in situations where I ended up pacing behind a group of women, and I think the women get sketched out then stop to let me past, which I do and just nod. Then i'll get to inclines and my pace slow down resulting in them catching back up and I end up letting them pass, and the cycle continues until we both eventually reach the same destination. It's always awkward unless their group isn't sketched out and realize you're both going to the same place and we all walk at similar paces.

Just say hi and keep moving unless they try to interact more, usually with a question. It is a bit awkward when you're on a section of trail where you can see each other from a long distance but the type of trails I hike usually don't have many places like that.

One time I was hiking off of the blue ridge trail near Asheville. I was coming over a peak and a giant husky startled me. A girl was behind the dog and I stopped and said hey your dog scared the shit out of me what kind is it. This bitch was wearing a cloth satchel belt like batmans utility belt and pulled a fucking crystal ball out it and started rubbing it. It freaked me the fuck out and I left mid sentence. Pretty sure she was a wicken trying to put a spell on me. I read an article a week earlier how the sacred wicken tree in Asheville was cut down and they put curses on people for cutting it down. I used to talk to everyone but now I only talk to people occasionally. Ashville has some weird people.

Many of them are in full don't-rape-me mode here in the UK despite the fact that they are only meters way from the nearest road so I tend to err on the side of leaving them alone.
