Anon, you have to keep in mind that the average person knows nothing about cars and sees them only as a means of transportation. Many people who could afford a nice car just drive a regular one because they don't care about them. A lot of the upper middle class drives hybrids and Teslas. This isn't the old "rich people drive Toyotas!" cope, it's just the reality of lot of people not caring about cars.

Anyway I was planning to buy a car for $10k-15k but I don't feel like it's a good time right now for it and I've also been postponing it for months, so I decided I'll buy a shitbox again, cheaper than my most recent one, just to have something. I've been paying for an empty parking spot for months too and that's embarrassing. I'll just buy any random shitbox for $1k-2k to get it over with. My previous car was $4k and I was planning to step up to $10k-15k but I don't feel ready for it and I just need to get it over with.

Some people really just don't care about cars and just buy the cheapest thing they can which can be neglected as much as possible, as they just have no interest in the car beyond it taking them to work and back. I work in an office where everyone makes a decent amount of money and every car is either really nice or a total piece of shit, as people here either like cars or they seem them as nothing but a tool.

If you live in/near European cities it's far easier to drive a compact shitbox than a fancier fullsize. It's why there was luxury trim models for the old mini back in the day because even for buisness owners the ease of driving a smaller car with cheap parts was valuable and cornering was more important than whether the car was slow. Doubly so if you lived around a capital european city. Nowadays though it's just as important to have a shitty shortwheel base SUV or people carrier to survive collisions from retards who transfered their licenses from abroad into the country.I don't know about the countryside though, I think if you're white collar you have every incentive to not want to drive a shitbox around rural areas unless you have lethal country lanes like pic rel.

All of the cars I purchased for fun have been under 10k mainly because I like wierd old and goofy shit.
