Anonymous09/07/26, 02:44No.29081174What am I even doing anymore? Car culture fucking sucks.
As much as I love cars, I am increasingly finding it impossible to relate to anyone else that is supposedly into cars.
The way I see it, these are the groups nowadays:
-Clout chasers: Should've just stuck to watches and special edition Dunks. Everything is about the badge you have, how many Instashit followers you have, how much you spent, etc. I'm not even convinced they even drive their cars, I think they just take pictures of them and post them online. There's no room for personal preference, it's pure "how much did you spend" and that's the end of the discussion.
-Anime fags: furries, weebs, etc. that gather around and gay up anything remotely "QuiRkY" like 1st gen Miatas and kei cars. All they want to do is gather around in a parking lot and make weird autistic noises and smell up the place. Only do the dumbest mods like making 1st gen Miata pop ups remote control so they can make them pop up and down separately at a traffic light
-Low IQ brown highway roll racers: Only care about roll racing from like 90mph to whatever, as long as it takes zero skill and is 100% up to the car to decide victory. Tear up cars with shitty chip tunes with no supporting mods or respect for warming up and cooling down the car properly and then post all over the internet the car is bad because they broke it. Then, they inevitably speed through a residential area and total their car when a soccer mom pulls out and raises insurance rates for everyone else.

-Initial D fags: At first I had hope that corner-based racing and driver skill would make a comeback, but instead they just LARP that they can drive and have zero chops. They make driving a manual transmission way too much of a big deal (it's really not, t. manual driver since I've had a license over 25 years) and make up fan fiction about rev match downshifting when just coming to a normal red light. Don't actually know shit, but think they know everything-Hellaflush retards: similar to the clout chasers, but a specific group that just endlessly says "damn, too much wheel gap" as their camber gets more and more fucked up until the car is almost undriveable. They lower their shit until it barely can clear a leaf and then complain their oil sump is always busted. Don't know shit about driving, have zero taste, and can't say anything but "wheel gap wheel gap wheel gap". Real cars have clearance and have wheels concentric with the wheel arch, retards.-Sim racer LARPers: Similar to Initial D fags, think they are bigger shit than they are and that their video game skillz translate to real life (in most cases it doesn't).[cont]

-Track day tryhards: Will go to the track for their first time ever and make 1,000 social media clips of how they "passed a [faster car]" when really the faster car was just waiting for a straight for a clean pass on traffic or was having a mechanical issue and had to slow down until they could pit in. Never have any actual accomplishments, all catching faster cars with their pants down and acting like they won the F1 championships-"muh wrenching" douches: Usually have no demonstrable driving skills, so cope with "look at me, I changed my oil!". Thinks you have to waste all of your free time fixing a piece of shit to "deserve" to be called an enthusiast, but are really just either coping because they're poor or hate their wife/family and use the garage as an escape. Again, usually can't drive for shit and usually have very underwhelming cars.
____________
Bottom line, basically everyone is just so fucking fake and ulterior about it. Nothing is face value, no one seems to even "enjoy" what they do, it's all just for clout chasing and general faggotry. I hate it here.

Too long but I read it all anyway.
Yes.
The only solution to bad social scenes is to avoid them entirely and learn to enjoy your own company.

I think you just want to be miserable. I love hanging out and wrenching with boys. We get drunk and wander used car lots at least once a week just to talk about what we find there, it's great. Instead of viewing everything through the lens of predetermined archetypes, try actually meeting some friends and talking with them about cars. Unless of course, you don't actually have a passion for cars either, and were chasing something you didn't end up finding.

you sound like a self defeatist who needs excuses to be a friendless loser. try actually talking to people instead of whining about why its too hard or not worth it.

The only part of car culture I hate is buying used. I don't know how it got so shit, haven't had a car since a bit before covid but tired of walking to the grocery stores in winter
>ask about a few cars to my friends
>sub 10k A->B car and around town nothing fancy
>"Whoa anon you're going to be buying a money sink hehe should look into something new where they got all the fancy auto driving and stuff" x 10 from people
>basically if I am not buying a new Honda or Toyota I might as well kill myself in whatever death trap out there with 75-100k miles on it
>okay.jpg I'll just go to the dealerships I saw cars at
>Yeah looking at this 2013 BMW for 8.5k at one, this 7k 2014 Toyota camry, and a 5k 2007 ford focus just to throw in one odd ball.
EVERY FUCKING DEALERSHIP
>go ask for the used car on their lot "ohhh anon not sure it's out right now I think it's in the back, say how about this 2026 NEW TRUCK? BMW 7 series! Oh maybe this Civic Type R. Maybe a Corvette?
>oh okay well if the car I want is not available I'll go to the next place
>"erm oh actually it's just over there in the corner"
>try to get talked out of buying a manual because... reasons? so weird I thought they would want these off the lot
>price is firm unless I am willing to get locked into a payment program where they *might* knock off the the tags/title/fee costs and 500 bucks
>somehow having a +800 credit score makes purchasing harder
>penalties if I pay the loan off early too
>want to take the car out for a spin? better do this pre defined 1-3 mile route that won't let me test it on the highway
>want to look around the car for rust, engine looking somewhat decent, and the carfax
>"man anon really busting my balls here haha! We have mechanics that do all that :)"What the fuck happened? Last time I bought a car was 10 years ago, it's fucking dystopian now.

I have put 65,000km on my car since i bought it October last year.
I have modified it extensively in that time and the only place I ever posted it is /o/
In the real world I do cruises with mustangs from all eras and the community is actually really nice.
Everyone irl is a genuinely nice person and not only excited about the car you drive but also the car they drive and everyone is keen to share.
Just last week I drove an anons boss 429 while he drove my car and know what we didnt do? Photos for Facebook or videos for instagram.
We simply went for a flog on the touge.
You need to touch grass op.
Go outside and interact with actual humans instead of bots on 4chan.

You missed one; probably the worst cancer in the car industry:Moms who one up each other by silently flexing their top trim 3 row SUV, used exclusively for transporting 1 child or dog.

You are right man, I think you can still find good crews but it takes some luck.
Sadly every hobby under Sun is being invaded by money grabbers and normies. If you find something good, keep it secret and enjoy it.Im happy Im not a gamer or into pokemon, those subcultures were fucked over sideways and everywhich way as soon as normies got a whiff of it.I think its just this, normies dont have personality or maybe even Soul.
So they leech on anything they find online, and very rapidly try to display their "I have opinion but its allowed since it is tightly within this trend". It becomes a way for normies to appear "rich mentally" like, to appear like they have aromas of their mind, depth to character, and would be interesting to talk to.But as you start talking to them, you realize all they feel and think is basically from "how to love cars" manual and repeat same shit phrases and opinions in order to be considered "one of the tribe".But the issue is, every subculture starts as something opposite to normalcy and a way for people who think and feel to express themselves without the BOUNDS of rules and regulations (which doesnt mean they would break law, mind you. IE - tattoos used to be taboo, but now are mainstream. Now having a tattoo is not same as it used to be. Tho it may look insane and ugly, its done to belong to normieville). So with cars too. They can burn rubber in public roads and scream their tiny shouts but they arent really doing anything rebeliious.
They are simply expressing belonging to huge machine that is making "car lover" clones. Who actually make it shitty for people who really love cars.A true test IMO, for true lover vs poser is: can you, and would you - do the hobby, if nobody knew you were doing it.Automatically fitness thots, clout fags and similar vermin fall off.

Looking at the car that's either a 24 or 25 model, that means in 2 years someone put 37k on it or 1000/mo. Not the worst by any means but to drive 8 fucking hours for.... that, because you "drive 30 minutes to and from work" is absolutely fucking nuts. KBB says 22k on the low end so guessing he probably paid more because "performance package" meme for a 30 minute drive. There is no other reason than that guy had ruined credit, his parents have also bad credit so a cosign would do basically nothing to get a deal, and they had to shop around from far away and got baited. The used car market is completely fucked because people shop for wants not needs. If he is westcoast like his name suggest he could have found something local for 10k to go back and forth a whopping 30 minute commute, which if he is any major west coast city is probably under 10 miles because all that shitty traffic.
