Thinking about trying to buy one of the old early 90's Chevy S-10 Blazer or GMC S-15 Jimmy compact SUVs. Anyone got experience with these or something adjacent? It would be my first project car if I got one.

You could not have made a worse choice.
Any Ford, any fullsize GM, any Jeep, any Dodge would be better.
Like seriously.
An Eagle would be more reliable.
A Scout dragged out of a field would be more rust free.

Was given one by family. Got it to 275k miles while giving me zero problems. The only things were the EGR valve had a habit of clogging up every two years making it run poorly and stink up the exhaust (nothing some carb cleaner couldn't fix), no AC, and dry rotted vacuum lines. Dumped it because the transmission was starting to slip and I was afraid it would leave me stranded. I regret getting rid of it every day, I should have given it the dignity of dying under it's own power.

this is definitely representative of why /o/ is just kinda a lame shell of what it used to bethis is mostly parroting of written opinions with no firsthand knowledge-as the previous anon says. but here's the thibg, while no one is saying they were ever luxury vehicles, they really werent that bad. I learned to drive in a 92 ford explorer. One of my project vehicles 10 years ago was a 93 mitsubishi mighty maxthe s-10s, explorers and american vehicles were leagues ahead of that. yeah, both had plastic interiors that impress no one in 2026, but just keep your mouth shut if you dont know what you are talking about.
i always thought the green digital dash in those early blazers was sick
