Portland police identified the man as 37-year-old Jacob Hastings. Maine's Total Coverage and 8 Investigates have confirmed that Hastings had a long criminal history and, at least at one time, was a member of the white supremacy group Aryan Nations. Hastings' criminal history shows a record dating back to 2006 in numerous jurisdictions, with convictions for robbery, probation violation, aggravated assault, reckless conduct, burglary, theft by unauthorized use, aggravated criminal mischief, unlawful sexual contact, assault, escape, theft by deception with priors, refusal to submit to arrest or detention and failure to comply to the sex offender registry.

He served time behind bars on multiple occasions, but in several cases, most of his sentences were suspended.In 2016, he was arrested on Milliken Street in Old Orchard Beach. He was wanted by the Maine Department of Corrections and police said he had made comments about killing police officers if they tried to arrest him. At the time, police said Hastings was a member of the Aryan Nation.Hastings was also listed on the Maine Sex Offender Registry as a Tier III lifetime registrant. That was due to multiple convictions for unlawful sexual contact.According to the registry, he had several aliases, including Kid Hastings and Peanut Kid Hastings. The registry showed that he currently lived in Portland.
