now that you mention it, whipper snipper cable is cheap and light and slick. i wonder if it would have any problems other than the mating surfaces where it has to actually actuate something. i guess it might stretch faster than steel cable and it might be hard to find thin enough stuff but also you can find people offloading 500ft reels of the stuff for cheap every fallmight try it out when i run out of junk cables

i want to further add, the next evolution in cable technology is not a better cable, but rather the obsolescence thereof. "brake by wire" will be the natural progression, first wired, then wireless. you'll be able to do all sort of neat shit. ABS, parking brake set, actuation curves, etc. there will still be a hydraulic reservoir, but it won't be up in your handlebars anymore. just like cars.

Would literally not put rim brakes even on a kid's bike; wouldn't put cable brakes either. Hydraulics are smooth as butter one finger actuation and that's the sole reasonable choice nowadays.
