Yeah, I got a nice carbon fiber endurance bike with 32mm toobless and hydraulic dick breaks so I don't need to do grip strength training all winter to be able to break from the hoods. It also has aero wheels for less suffering when going against a strong headwind on the way to work. The whole thing cost about as much as that hipster frame too. But if you want to show off how much you spent to go slow, knock yourself out (not literally of course because you're wearing a helmet, right?)

Yes, I am old, have racked up alot of injuries and I have come to realise it doesn't matter what kind of bike you're on, what matters os THAT you're on a bike. That makes you many times faster than a pedestrian. On a TT bike you'll be only a fraction of that faster again.
Also the older I get the faster I was so no need to show anyone I can tell the stories.

Steel clunkers for comfort is the frame equivalent of insisting on having big ass knobby tires on your front suspension hybrid because "what about hydroplaning", it sounds like it makes total sense if you're unafraid to let your ignorance get in the way of learning, and therefore bike salesmen have learned to stop arguing and just give the customer what he wants

They did a blind test on this a few decades back. In the saddle, weight is the only difference between the different steel tubings, that the rider will notice. So you're basically paying $4500 extra to save muh grams and to flex on poors.And yet per the official forum lore, the guy on the $1500 carbon road bike with 55psi tires is an uncomfortable performance-obsessed status fred, and the guy on the $5000 italian weeaboo meme steel antique with 190psi medieval torture device tires is practical and just-smell-the-rosesPost purchase rationalization is a hell of a drug.

And it was kind of magical and I got in my head what I really wanted was to be one of these tech bros getting fucked by me and to feel that.>So I put out an ad looking for a white guy my age to come over and buy my lady's bike and that guy looked a lot like me. And then this clown came over and paid me $5000, then I got addicted to that, some days three, four guys would come over and buy them at $5000 each. Some I even got on a waitlist, and at the same time I'd just quit working... just sit and watch the whole thing. I'd look in his eyes while taking his credit card and think..
