I have been on this site for 10 years and I only noticed this board today. Since I'm already here, I'd like to ask a question:
Why are train autists so much more hated than other autist brands?

Seems to me that on other boards, the /n/ autists with a bad reputation are cyclists because of the tryhard freds and red light runners.

I don't think they are, who says they're hated? And compared to what other subcultures? Car guys and motorcycle guys are much more hated outside their hobby. Doing burnouts, making their toys as loud and fast/dangerous as humanly possible, shutting down intersections for tiktok videos, treating public roadways as racetracks, and just generally asshole behavior. Gamers aka incels? Sneakerheads? Sk8rbois? Wine snobs? Does anyone like wine snobs? Speaker guys? Audiophiles are universally mocked for being simultaneously arrogant and gullible. Gun nuts, need I elaborate on that? Potheads? Crypto bros? AI/singularity types? Paleo dorks? Crossfitters? Meme stock traders? A lot of these groups are widely seen as barely above pedophiles and you think the guys who take pictures of trains have a public image problem?I can think of few subcultures that are hated less than train enthusiasts, in fact. Maybe not the most masculine or heroic public image but I don't think it's a negative one per se. Urbanists pretend to have some overlap with train foamers and no one likes urbanists, but you can tell it's a surface level appreciation of trains. They like trains because they believe trains are somehow anti-car or anti-boomer not because they genuinely appreciate trains. And so I don't think they're generally lumped into the same bucket.

train autists are the only brand of autists who are hated by the people who make them and work with them. The fact that we have a slur for them "foamers" is testament to this. I think it's because they're annoying with how they sit around the tracks and record and get in the way

I think normies just can’t understand why anyone would be obsessed with trains, and anything that can’t be monetized is seen as weird and even threatening. Train autistes consoom camera lenses and model trains but they don’t bankroll massive industries like gamers or fantasy football bettors (also spergs obsessed with obscure data). Maybe in the U.K. or Japan where more people ride trains and eccentric hobbies are accepted it’s a bit more relatable but in the U.S. you’re a freak whereas a factoid spouting carfag is just a normal dude.

If true, it's because trains are the only type of fucking huge machinery enjoyed by autists that operates on land and can be accessed easily. You can legally walk right up to a train and touch it and kiss it and take up close photos, but not airliners or ships.

People with autism who choose trains as their special interest are like gooners who choose feet as their fetish, it's one of those seemingly capricious interests for how much effort they put into it. I can get being an autist for cars or airplanes but trains always seemed like an odd thing to be particularly interested in because they're basically just cars that can't steer on their own and are stuck to rails

It's simple. Most train nerds are rail supremacists. Take Greta from Sweden, who hates cars, ships, and planes—she's a perfect example.
Autistic rail fanatics just shove trains down everyone's throat, so they attract hate.Right now, I'm most excited about the development of autonomous driving technology. That'll steal passengers away from high-speed rail too.

By the way, where did this idea that“railway enthusiasts are often autistic”even come from?
if you actually Google it, you'll find sites and descriptions pointing out that connection—it's not like there are zero of them.i bet there are papers or statistics on it in psychiatry or something.
for example, in other countries, like Korea, there seems to be a derogatory term like“Trainsperger,”and if you search in Japanese, it looks like the word“Railfans”itself has become slang for disabled people.
