Try riding a bike through that area and I'm sure you'll figure it out. Sidewalks are almost never a good option, since they're full of pedestrians, so there is obviously something wrong with your town's implementation, as is usually the case with these things. Lane has too many obstructions, or it requires a dangerous merge, or there's always people parked in it (see: requires a dangerous merge). Use your eyes.If you're scared because you see it as too dangerous, then there's your answer. Or, instead of a random pic you got from google, post the street and city if it's on google street view, or take a pic next time you're there, and someone can tell you. it should be pretty obvious what the problem is upon casual examination.John Forester did nothing wrong.

Here, there's always debris, bins or other stuff in the bikelane. Because they peg it off the street sweepers never touch it and it doesn't rain enough to do anything. They really should just make a barrier and just join both directions of bikelane. More space for cars and less shit for bikes.

if someone is riding on the sidewalk or road it's for one of a few reasons
>they are a delivery ebike driver or s-works owning roadie (not human)
>the bike path is full of debris, parked cars and will pop your tires because it's not fully separated
>up ahead the bike path ends extremely dangerously and forces a merge onto the roadway so people get off onto the sidewalk preemptively

in my city cyclists are Like This and it's because all the bike paths are only like three blocks long and go nowhere. Everyone is convinced it was 100% done to market the city as "Eco" to businesses looking to move, and not to actually alleviate traffic.Same for roundabouts. They just put them in random places because memes.
