but her voice had a good tone. Why did Amerifats made such a big dal out of her lip syncing on SNL as if it were a career ending moment? She clearly wasn't going to last anyway. If anything, the SNL fiasco is the reason why she's still talked about.

The market was saturated and the bottom was ready to drop out. We had Disney Channel style teen pop fatigue. I liked all that crap but I could see where it was going. Even while defending her you aren't afraid to admit that Ashlee Simpson was mid. It's hard to say if she's that much better or that much worse than most of her forgotten contemporaries that never made it to the radio or MTV. She just had the right machine backing her. Look at who that corporation is backing now. They aren't repeating these mistakes.Another obvious question. Do you think Ashlee actually wanted to be there? I didn't get that impression. The national humiliation probably wasn't good for her psyche but at least it gave her an out.

A further observation. Jessica Simpson is far more talented than Ashlee Simpson. But the team at Sony knew jack fucking shit about how to market Jessica and repeatedly fumbled so her career stalled out. On the other hand over at Universal they took the less talented Ashlee and marketed her correctly with a very successful radio push. They didn't give up after that La La song didn't do what they wanted it to. They kept going. It was only the SNL shit that killed the momentum.

She was fine. I think the problem was that she was really just Jessica Simpson's ugly sister, and she was being marketed as a second rate Avril Lavigne, who was already a "mall punk" creation. People could smell the bullshit, and when she got caught lip syncing, people were ready to attack. I think you're right, though - the outrage was a media creation, like almost everything. There are so many celebrity scandals that aren't really that big of a deal, and normal people freak out because the media tells them to.
