The question has never been>"What if Zeon won the One Year War?"but>"Is there a good story to be told if Zeon won the One Year War?"After watching Japan make Gquuuux, the answer seems to be a big fat NO.

Zeon is only interesting to fans BECAUSE they lose. They start with massive advantage at the start of the war, have multiple chance to win, but still fumble each time. That's why Zeon is so interesting to analyze and discuss.

>Universal Century 0088 >A half century has passed since Earth's burgeoning population were forcibly moved into gigantic orbiting space colonies. A new home for mankind, where people are born and raised, and die. >Nine Years Ago, the cluster of colonies furthest from the Earth, called Side 3, declared war on the Earth Federation. In just under a month, more than half of the human population was killed. >After nine months of brutal conquest across the Earth sphere, the young Garma Zabi, youngest son of Zeon's leader Degwin Zabi, launched a raid onto the Federation's military headquarters Jaburo, deep in the heart of the South American continent. The Federation's final engine of war on the surface was silenced. >A last ditch effort by Federation forces saw the singular colony Side 7 and the Luna 2 asteroid base jointly launch towards Venus to escape the Zeonic tyranny that would surely follow the imminent collapse of the Federation's authority. In conjunction with this, the Federation's R&D authorities engaged with the V-Project would withdraw with them. >Over the next nine years, the Federal Remnant built up in exile, managing to secure other Federation exiles and a secure contract with the Jupiter Energy Fleet. >Now, almost a decade in exile, the Federal remnant has launched a probing mission into the Zeonic controlled Earth sphere territories, hoping to find weaknesses in Zeon that they can exploit. >The Council of Venus, formerly the scientist corps who worked on the V-Project, have spent the last decade refining their principals and machine knowledge to advance mobile suit technology under Tem Ray's guidance. They have outfitted the probing expedition teams each with a trio of units built on the Ad-V-anced Project systems. Three teams, one to Earth, one to Luna, and one to the colonies, will make up the probing expedition. >Perhaps they can end this Ten Year War.

If Zeon won, tomino would allow himself to write a final solution to earth being harmed by humans and he'd end the whole thing as being radical but necessary action to save the earth. He doesn't permit himself to have this though, which is why the protagonist always stops them.

They'll almost certainly fall into infighting almost immediately.

Imagine their children. Just like an entire child army of S-tier Newtypes in mass produced Qubeleys instead of Purus.

My problem with these scenarios is that it's always hegemony vs hegemony: "Zeon replaces the Federation as the sole power in the Earth sphere". It's boring. Really boring.A much more interesting idea would be complete fragmentation, with coalitions shifting among regions and even individual warlords. History has a lot of examples: >The Warring States of China >The Sengoku period >the post-Alexander Wars of the Diadochi >the end of the Western Roman Empire >the petty kingdoms of the Holy Roman Empire >Italy before the Unification >the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire >the Warlord period of the Chinese Civil War >the breakup of Yugoslavia I could go on.What stops the various Sides and regions of Earth from declaring themselves independent?

They might as well be because modern UC wanks off Zeon too much when the originals titled towards the Federation even if they're not perfect.

I'll take a crack at it too.>U.C. 0079. The Battle of Loum. The first major space battle of the One Year War. One nation, fielding revolutionary technology, vs. the world's largest hegemony. It's a stalemate. >General Revil dies in combat. He's remembered as a hero. Likewise, as morale falls among the Zeonic people, Ghiren Zabi is assassinated by loyalists to Kycilia's faction. He too, will go on to be remembered fondly by the people of Zeon. Militants and nationalists will go on to paint him as a martyr to the cause. >With Ghiren dead. Plans for an invasion of Earth fall apart. The wonder weapons that Zeon was famous for in the original timeline never come to pass. The early days of the war are defined by duels between Guncannons and Zaku IIs. > With Ghiren dead, Zeon enters a political crisis, Kycillia's involvement in his death is revealed to the public. A scandal for the Zabi family. Degwin, already old, and on the verge of retirement, steps down. And reluctantly, Ramba Ral, whose family had a history in politics, takes his place. Ral resolves to fight a defensive war. Zeon's strategy shifts. It focuses on attacking the Federation's supply lines, and slowly breaking the enemy's logistics. > Zeon's focus on a defensive war means that it never gets to attack Side 7. The Gundam never falls into the hands of Amuro Ray. Never becoming "The weapon that won the war." The doctrine of ace prototypes and one off units that defined the original U.C. never takes off. The Federation will go on to mass produce the GM. Though, ironically, the Gundam's head would go on to be used in some production runs of the GM. Affectionately known as the Gundam-Head by its pilots, Gundam-Head GMs would have a decent track record in MS vs MS combat. >U.C. 0080. The war drags on. Anaheim Electronics starts selling parts to Zeon behind the scenes. The Federation continues to funnel resources into what's slowly becoming an unpopular war.
