The writers of Wing watched 0079 through Victory in preparation but decided 0079 was the best and the others are shit. Now it makes since why 0079 and W are the best shows. >――What was Gundam Wing like in its earliest planning phase? >Sumizawa: To be honest, neither Director Ikeda nor I had actually seen Gundam before. So before diving into Wing, we sat down and marathoned everything from First through Victory Gundam to study up. But when you sprint through them like that, you don’t really come away understanding “what Gundam is.” Ikeda, though, declared, “I’ve got Gundam figured out!” (laughs), and drew up a structural outline. At that point, he already had a plan for over forty episodes. His idea was to reproduce every Gundam from First through Victory within this one series. But Ikeda is the kind of person who changes as he works. By the time we’d produced episodes one through five, his thinking was already evolving. So when we reached the point of airing episode ten, it was like, “Whatever happened to those original forty-episode plans?” (laughs). >――And how did you approach the concept for the story and scripts? >Sumizawa: After watching all the previous Gundams, Ikeda and I agreed on one thing: “The one that feels best to watch is First.” First Gundam works even just as a “journey story,” following the protagonists as they move from place to place. When you look back, the later series from Zeta onward leaned too far into the psychology of their teenage boys. The dialogue and the stories became uncomfortably introspective, even off-putting. So we decided: in our Gundam, we’d strip away that unpleasantness. We wanted something clean, like First. That’s why the lines in Wing have that bold, flamboyant flavor, they were written with First’s cadence in mind.

>Zechs is a morally better Char with less baggage, trauma, and tragedy >and he does better as a person and fares better as a human being, and is arguably a better pilot as well >and we also get somewhere (positive) with him being a scion of a bigname founder Ok I guess that's fair

I am amazed at how much /m/ dislikes Zeta these days. It's my favorite anime ever made. I don't know how good it is, and I don't care, but this board helped make me love this show, and it's crazy how nobody seems to like it anymore.

Based. 0079 and Wing are the only Gundam shows you need. Maybe SEED too depending on how you feel about it.

So we decided: in our Gundam, we’d strip away that unpleasantness. This is exactly what made Zeta and the later series good and what theyre really admitting here is that they made Wing so that it doesnt challenge the viewer or make them feel uncomfortable, basically making it a shallow, watered down 0079 with all the complex character psychology removed and replaced with easy to understand archetypes so that even retards can enjoy it

So FT will end with Heero becoming a vegetable because it's the AC version of Zeta?

If Wing was inspired by 79, why was its whole premise just a Zeta rehash? >OZ are just the titans, Treize and the Romefellers are just scirocco and when he took over the Titans, White Fang is just Axis Zeon, Dorothy is just Haman and Katejina fused together Arguably the only 79 aspects was Zechs being a char clone piloting the wing universe equivalent to the rx-78-2

Then they have shit taste. Zeta is best Gundam, always and forever. Wing is also absolutely nothing like First Gundam (although I love both of them, neither come anywhere CLOSE to Zeta).

You literally can't find a single example of Zeta influencing another anime. Just 0079. It's only Americans overrating Zeta garbage

The longer FT drags on, the more it feels like Bandai suing Katoki for copyright infringement (he's monetizing an IP which is not his own or the other writer's) is the safer option even if it means Katoki getting blacklisted

But wing is one of the bad shows. Americans only like it for nostalgia.

It was from Zeta onwards that Tomino took the reins completely with his psychological bullshit. And don't get me started on G-Reco.
