Hmm, now I wonder - I was working on my novel that's inspired by ML but I'm curious if there's another anime/manga/movie where child soldiers are sent over to the battlefield but it's treated like they're just going out for sports. All the kids being happy being used as weapons while the parents are all like "don't be scared! You can do it! You'll bring great honor if you die anyways!". I'm sure it's been done before but nothing pops in my mind.

Oh no, im not blaming meiya for what she did during the battle, i mean, going directly into danger despite being unarmed and in your first battle to save your comrade is pretty damn brave, its just it might have played a part in him getting shot down. Ultimately, it ends up with what happens in the story, but I like to imagine that Takeru could have pulled it off and avoided unforgiven. Though it kind of proves yuuko's point a bit of yokohama being too lax (and somewhat incompetent), doesnt it? what base would let essentially unarmed (when it comes to the BETA) personnel wander around wide open places when there should be mechanized infantry checking for smaller strains (im fairly certain the highly armored guards can kill tank classes on their own, its just nice having TSF doing the rounds too). The DS-3 really is the best shield in muv luv, isnt it? Sharpened carbon to impale and use as a blade, ERA to deflect and blow up BETA, and im pretty damn sure its just outright tough enough to tank grapper class without the explosives. You can see typhoons using it, but its somewhat saddening that there's no depiction of east german fulcrums using it, though i guess that'd be counterproductive to their "light TSF" design.
