I haven't seen it so removing anything I've heard about crappy writing: I just really don't like the look of the mechs. I think it's an ugly aesthetic with weird design choices, and I have no desire to look at them for a bunch of episodes of an anime.

The biggest reason is how it aired. It ran in that weird time when toonami was dying but adult swim had not yet taken off. Being relegated to just Saturday nights was a death sentence.

It was never freaking on and episodes were impossible to follow. It's almost like they aired random episodes not the serial. Then when they did air it in serial you forgot everything that happened beforehand.I just remembered the tamaki nami songs and still play them while driving. But I remember SEED as a whole because I filled JP stuffs and play SRW.

Because it was influenced by those high-school melodrama shows Japan airs and people hate it when there is needless melodrama in a mecha show. Not to mention poor character development, asspulls, plot armor and other nonsense. The only good thing about SEED are the spin-off series like SEED Astray.

SEED wasn't appropriate for the standards of the afterschool cartoon block like W and G were. Yeah there was violence in them and people died but it was typically indirect. It didn't have shots of people getting gored in their cockpits, or being vaporized from all the super weapons and didn't have people fucking on screen. Most of the violence of W is "A Gundam!" and then the suit gets blown up from a distance. And G is almost entirely tournament violence where most of the people that fight don't die barring some guys at the end.

Wing was new and had that going for it, then USA got a bunch of UC stuff (and G), then SEED came in 04. it wasn't this exotic thing anymore so if you weren't a hard convert to the property, you most likely ignored it for something you liked more. like here in Canada it aired on Friday nights along with a bunch of other anime. I could stand to miss the other shows but IK absolutely had to see SEED. so my guess is most people felt the same way but about different shows. also I kind of get the sense programmers were trying to de-anime their networks because Caanda never got Destiny and anime stopped airing on the toon channel altogether not long after (with some minor exceptions) ... Also by the time SEED was on there was already a lot more 'mature' anime on offer compared to when Wing was on and a lot of it was considerably less mature. also, liking anime past a certain age was kind of cringe in 2004. the core audience these programming blocks were aimed at was in high school or middle school by then. zoomers got entirely different programming blocks targeted at them, and i actually have a theory there was an attempt to make anime less popular with them at the time.

This, I remember randomly catching a SEED episode in the middle of the day as a kid, but the schedule wasn't consistent so I didn't keep up with it. They did have it up on the toonami website at the time though. I ended up watching more SD Gundam Force since they aired that more often.

Wing was stoic, edgy and stylized with a kind of fairytale atmosphere, sith ghe princes, knights, napoleonic uniforms, etc. Very Western coded and cool.Seed was way too Japanese, the whole thing was a big gay cry fest about WW2 in space and the poor oppressed misunderstood special people stand-ins for Japs instead of Jews this time

This anime looks like it was made to rot on the shelves of your public library in misordered dvd volumes. It's probably the blandest looking Gundam series and the HD upscale does it no favors. Still it does have a somewhat nostalgic vibe to it.
