It's pretty good. A couple stretches of episodes can kind of drag, but mostly I found it interesting and well presented. Really, really nice battleship designs.

It’s worth watching. The first Earth episodes are some of Tomino’s best work, and the battles become really entertaining to watch near the mid point when both sides start developing better and better technology. I don’t remember any of the characters being infuriating like Zeta or ZZ Gundam, and the Isekai’d characters on both sides get a lot of development. Wasn’t the biggest fan of the final stretch of episodes though.

I liked the first half and it's isekai adventure, political wheeling and dealing, and our fish out of water characters trying to deal with it to variously successful degrees in their own way.
The second half was mindless action in comparison and really leaning into battle of the week for battle of the week's sake.Please take this webm of Prince William gleefully enjoying the carnage unfolding on tv which is totally not meta commentary.

Dunbine is one of the few good Isekais that exist, its actually funny how much better the mecha genre has done isekai than the usual slop that is out nowadays.

It drags a lot. It never uses its full potential (the reverse isekai part). The ending is edgy trashfire.

I liked the first half when it was medieval politics and siege combat with assists from the small amount of mecha they had. Once Drake gained hundreds upon hundreds of Aura Battlers and they moved to Earth it basically just became Bug Gundam which wasn't nearly as interesting.

Wasnt Garzeys Wing the original idea Tomino wanted for Dunbine? I remember reading he never wanted it to be a mecha story and just had the characters with fucking hermes wings on their feet before Bandai told him to put robots in it

the real mystery is why Hyper Mode in Dunbine is never mentioned or used anywhere outside Dunbine?
SRW games never use it
Dunbine OVA sequels never use it
it just makes the mechs bigger but SRW avoids it like the plague
