Of all the Hoko Kuwashima voiced characters, Flay and Natarle were both the most fixable. Hell Natarle was a good ship Captain outside of a minor blunder when she was focusing on resupplies instead of attacking GENESIS immediately in SEED. As for Flay, she would have been a far better mate for Kira to bridge the Natural and Coordinator divide. By the end of SEED she had grown a lot with the increased perspective on both sides.

I was infuriated with her but saw her grow and have a meltdown and realized she's just a realistic woman and racist whose fake love was slowly becoming genuine, and I felt really bad for her by the end. Good character, one of the many cases where a Gundam character, especially female, starts off grating before you realize she's human, which made her memorable and endearing

I love Flay and think she is the best character in seed and is one of the best Gundam characters in general. I also love the drama around her character, she totally makes the first half of seed way more enjoyable and it noticeably falls off a bit when she stops being in the focus, I really think it's a writing blunder that they didn't continue her storyline more closely. In an alternate timeline she should of been the Strike Rouge pilot(would have been funny to reveal after everything she is a decent pilot as well) and survived to be Kira's main girl. There is something about seed where Kira is the only one who can fight and keep everyone alive for a lot of it that makes sense that he'd come back to a hot redhead to make love to. Even if her love is fake at first, the fact that it becomes real later just makes it better. Something feels right about it

Great girl. Like everyone, I hated her at first. If I can understand that they decided to kill her to show how bad war is, I don't understand why they made it so that Kira did not hear her space ghost.
I watched the remastered version so I'm not sure the original version had that, but most of the shipping between Kira and Lacus happens in the opening and endings. It's one of the worst offenses I've seen of a show deliberately forcing a ship down the viewer's through. I'm watching Destiny now and they should have definitely kept Flay alive. Her dynamic with Kira was much more interesting.
I don't know much about that Freedom movie, but I assume there's no mention of Flay past Seed really. I wished they'd at least give her and Murrue good scale figures.

She's the one source of entertainment in pre-Azrael SEED. Her trying to pussy-whip Kira into being her attack dog Uncle Tom was the only interesting part of Cosmic Era. Apart from maybe the space whale, but that never even pretends to be going anywhere.

No, she was great. A very realistic woman. You can look at the popularity chart for females in gundam to see how realistic they are. The most popular are boring Mary sues, very unrealistic characters. The most hated are the more realistic like Flay and Reccoa.

It just really bothers me that they never introduced anything sex related again in SEED. It's like fans hated it and they backtracked from it hard.
