The first time I read Heart of Darkness, I read it in a Spanish translation, and I found it disappointing. Years later, I read the original text, and it felt like a completely different world (the musicality, the rhythm, etc.). Something is always lost in translation.

Not at all, the english translations by Edith Grossman and Rutherford are masterworks in their own right.
Until I started frequenting /lit/ I never imagined that this was a contentious book at all. It's such an incredible read, easily among my top 5 favorite books I ever read, I have no idea why so many people here have such a hard time with it and why it incentivises to so many idiotic hot takes.

I don't get the Angloid golem obsession with Don Quixote, and I don't get its analogous Hispanic acclaim as well. I don't know which one is worse. Possibly the Angloid because that's as much as they know about Spanish literature, and when they speak in praise of the Quixote it's usually to boast about knowledge of a "foreign" literature they don't really understand.
I assume Spanish literature became foreign to literate British and French tastes when courtesan Rennaissance-Baroque art went out of fashion, replaced by the bourgeois, urban art which finds its favorite manifestation in the novel. It is explained why the Quixote was rescued then. But this (Rennaisance-Baroque) is exactly the period Spanish culture was flourishing, and then, the highest expressions of letters were found in Poetry and the Theater. Cervantes himself wished to become a famous playwright during his time even if today he is mostly known for his monumental novel.
The modern materialistic and naturalistic reading of the Quixote is incorrect, and when retarded interpreters of literature uphold this assessment you know they are influenced by foraneous, bourgeois, philistine and materialistic tendencies birthed by the Enlightenment and its characteristic physiocrat, cerebral, bourgeois worldview, which ignores all spiritual dimensions expressed in the arts.
TLDR; filtered, learn Spanish.
