Hello friends,
I am writing a novel. It is literary erotica. My hope is to create a story where we can understand the experience of an intimate relationship. When you are in love, the other person is the most interesting thing in the world, where lying in bed having sex is the most moving experience you can have despite mundanity and repetitiveness. It is both a book about sex and romance but also about life itself.
My worry is that the book would be unpublishable. Explicit sex scenes juxtaposed with slice of life mundanity may to be boring for those seeking a thrill and too scandalous for those seeking literature. However, I do see the market leaning heavily towards low brow erotica and mid-market literary fiction which I think my book would fit into both.
I am curious about all your thoughts.

cant give publishing advice but combining eroticism and porn logic with postmodern-esque neurotic ramblings makes for a fun writing exercise, especially if the sex scenes illustrate other points

Is it meant to actually be porn or does it just have sex in it? Is it for men or women? Is it more fantasy or reality?
Literotica can handle a higher brow spin sometimes but most attempts to do so don’t actually deliver the goods. What’s the hook?

i just had an idea for a novel wherein every other chapter is a continuation of a very long and over written sex scene, with the intervening chapters being the lead-up thereunto, revealed, in the penultimate chapter, that the lovers are mother and son, who are--last page--burst in upon and murdered by the father (Laius Unbound)

It can work however I would be very sceptical of applying a sexual reading to every word and concept It gets very easy to sexualize everything to the point it gets tiresome. Sex is the bedrock of knowledge but after that point you branch out into different poetical readings which will make you a more refined and respected writer. The question isn't writing sex but to keep a relationship floating which is the problem for all of humankind. Heck even some types of sex will instantly sink a relationship (pee)

Sufficiently steamy prose can elevate even the most mundane of sex acts. Though i must warn you about the biggest pitfall of writing smut with anything more complex than an excuse of a plot: it's a cumrag to be used and skipped to the next fucky-fuck. That's hiw a significant portion of your readerbase will treat it. I have different mindsets for reading smut and for engaging with literary fiction and they don't mesh very well.
