Everyone tells you to write your first draft without thinking, but I just can't do that. I'm constantly fighting the urge to stop and fix some punctuation, spelling, or grammar mistakes before I move on.
So I tried voice-to-text in Google Docs for a small chunk of the story I'm writing, and even though I had to clean it up a bit afterward, it felt liberating to get through a whole paragraph without agonizing over every single word. What do you think? Dictation or writing?

If it works for you go for it. Though I'm curious, when you say you had to clean it up a little bit afterwards do you mean it messed up some words and such? How do you do it for punctuation? Do you literally have to say "comma", "dot", etc?

I feel like they're almost two different muscles in a way. I can write quickly but struggle considerably more with on demand dictation. But I think dictation has a much stronger relationship with verbal rhetoric in general, so I think it's good to practice both. But writing will allow for more development in phrasing and such, and arguably reduces the amount of future editing
