>Wow this is an amazing setting >The lore of this place is fantastic >What an adventure! *The Hero Meets the Girl* >Entire last half of book is feet fetish, kissing, infantilism, physical punishment in a master/slave relationship What the fuck? I understand why it's not more popular now... what the fuck was the last half of that book? Up until then it was my favorite read of all time.

WOAH WOAH WOAH. Slow down. What are we talking about here? How bad is the infantilism? Is the slave/master relationship comfy or degenerate?

It’s kinda sad that this thread may discourage people from reading Hodgson. He’s so obviously a time traveler.

Maybe you should consider why the back half of the book focuses on that.

Honestly sounds like Chambers' The King in Yellow collection. Starts with awesome stories about the Yellow Sign and ends with crappy romance.

Wait till you read "House on the Borderland" same exact thing, really cool setting, character starts exploring..,.and falls into space before the last half of the book is just him traveling through space looking at impossibly old temples in an impossibly black existence where the universe is dying and light has long since ceased to touch. For 50 pagesA lot of authors just don't know how to write an ending and wrap up their story so they do this bullshit instead.

Sexless literary prudes in this thread. If you wandered over a lightless desert, facing countless dangers and supernatural evils, you’re telling me you wouldn’t be infatuated over the descendent reincarnation of your past-temporally dead wife?

none of this true. why lie about this? is this the book discussion equivalent of yelling a girl has cooties because you like her?

Time to lock in faggots: walk fifty kilometers a day and live off energy bars.

It's a nice contrast to the lonely bleakness of the first half. Also it speeds up near the end. Hodgson isn't a perfect author but he has a skill of describing the truly nightmarish and alien and contrasting it with the human and the familiar. It's still incredible to me how much of sci-fi and even fantasy appears to have just been a psychic emanation from Night Land even though almost nobody has actually read it.

The Night Land is great until the guy finds the woman. Then the woman goes into a coma and it gets good again. There's a lesson here for aspiring writers.
