That book can give some good pointers, but ultimately it comes down to disciplining yourself. No one else can rewire your brain for you.

There’s no magic way around it. Log off and start reading consistently. Consistence is key. Even if 2 pages, you must read everyday. Never skip even one day. Stick to this. You will be unrecognisable to your self now.

There is the surface level, where one appreciates the writing style and plot, and then there are subsurface levels, where one can detect hidden meanings. The hidden meanings routinely require a broader range of references, both literary and others, sometimes with a requirement of understanding scientific terms, or who various people were.Admittedly, this was TV rather than reading a book, but it requires literary reading which I’m sure some people here will have done. In episode 7 of the first season of “Gilmore Girls”, Rory is visiting the grocery store and talking to Dean, her boyfriend, who is assembling a stack of cans to look like the Mayflower. Then Rory makes a comment about Corn Starch, before commenting about how she sewed a button on her uniform with a silver thread, and Dean mentions Ant-Spray, since it is fall, Cornucopias are also seen. I’m sure some people here will get the references. In a different series, Slow Horses, in season three, you have a character named “Donovan”, going rogue from a private military company called “Chieftain”, trying to break into a storage facility to see the “Gray Files”, but instead going to room “twelve”, to retrieve alternative files, linked to a surveilance system that made individuals in embassies deathly ill.

read more. that's it.this book is stupid as hell, I can't believe people suggest it all the time. it boils down to 3 types of reading. scanning - self explanatory intently reading (don't remember the name but it's basically actually reading with purpose and attention) analytical reading - learningyou don't need ~400 pages for someone to tell this to you. or maybe you do and in that case a book won't help you

This book was written for a different time, where people read by default but consumed books the way we consume online content - mostly slop. That's why it's full of exhortations to read properly instead of exhortations to read at all. The people who would read this book nowadays no longer need to be motivated to read "good" books because those who will pick this book up are motivated enough already. So, it needs to be cut down to size for the modern era. Thankfully we have charts for this sort of thing.

Most reading "tips" focus on improving comprehension within frameworks, like skimming the table of contents, or asking yourself questions after the end of the chapter But if you want, say, more crystallized knowledge, you need to read more to get more words and concepts, you can't really get around that. If you want to be really efficient, maybe start with a good textbook that gives you the lay of the land before getting bogged down in the specifics. Again, having landmarks and whatnot helps in literacy and understanding. But general things like reading tolerance and stamina and first-pass comprehension are mainly increased through practice (and genetics). The best way over the mountain is through it, basically
