Try the attached. I've heard good things about The Western Esoteric Traditions: A Historical Introduction, but my copy hasn't arrived yet. The hannegraaf one is a touch polticial for my tastes but other than that, it's fine. Lots of information in both around the history, background and rough shape of their practices. Meditations on the Tarot, Chapter 1, is worth a read and a little closer to actual 'magic' if more a guide on the why and a touch of how.If you're looking for a prescriptive and operational manual, can't help you.

Just read Alan and Steve Moore's The Moon and Serpent Bumper Book of Magic, it's great for that purpose and serves as an excellent introduction to the framework, methodology and history of magic, esoteric, mystic, occult and alchemical thought written by two staunch magicians who have plenty of mileage in the field.

He defines magic as "the science of the self" and the rest of the book is just dogshit philosophy takes but without using the word philosophy or names of philisophers, out of fear the reader might turn to minds that actually know something. Any scholarly dive into the the occult will inevitably tell you it's all bullshit because you can just try it and it doesn't work. The only people that will tell you it works are the "don't try to understand it, feel it" types who will withhold information from you for years at a time until you've invested a big chunk of your life into learning "the secrets" and from then on you're incentivsed to find the next sucker, which obviously doesn't work in book format.
