The Monster wasn't evil, he behaved exactly as a fatherless boy can be expected to act, adjusted for being eight feet tall and superhumanly powerful. Frankenstein wasn't evil, either. Frankenstein was too egotistical to admit he couldn't do it by himself, too incompetent to do it properly, and too cowardly to man up and deal with the consequences. The entire book is a critique of men and more specifically the damage done by men who are ready to breed new life, but not ready to be fathers as is to be expected from the daughter of one of the first true feminists and a father who made a heroic effort to raise her well.
