anabais by xenophon and jakob walter's diary of a napoleonic soldier are my favs. maybe not what you're looking for, but the pharsalia and jerusalem delivared are two epics about real wars.

Yes, Catch-22 is at least a dozen times better than Švejk. It handily surpasses most non-war books as well.
