From a country with conscription, think half a year to a year of camping and playing with guns, but there's someone always screaming at you and/or abusing their power in silly ways for their own amusement.Also sheds a light to how A) dumb and B) bigoted C) gay the average young man is. Though because of conscription of course there's all kinds of people from every walk of life.

Basically everyone is retarded, they've literally sold their individual human rights to the government for a down payment on a sports car, and your training is a mindbreak humiliation ritual to destroy your ego and replace it with "it's cool and manly to unflinchingly follow nonsensical orders." The stuff in fiction about how humans are better than robots because they have agency and can make moral decisions is completely false. Robots would actually be preferable to most enlisted men in that regard because the enlisted men are more likely to be cruel for shits and giggles instead of coldly executing their programming. You will never be free once you've joined. The military will always live in your head like a kid raised by turbo catholics, the programming can never be completely overwritten, and if you get out alive you'll be tracked for the rest of your life, batted from owning guns as if you're a felon, and fail psych evaluations for public service jobs after the military. The worst possible outcome is doing something cool like actually being a combat veteran, because then your perspective is fucked when you're forced to rejoin normie society and you can't solve your problems by killing them anymore.
