A complete meme, I saw a tranny shooting a gunpowder powered one, it blew golf ball sized holes in paper but was by far the loudest gun (louder than a .44 magnum) on the range and not very accurate. I’m not even sure what projectiles that thing shot.

I read the only useful ones are the pepper ones, as their impact hurt a little less but the pepper genuinely can stun someone and blind them for a bit. I never used any though as I don't have any need for one. The little ball hurt but not "stop the guy" hurt. the big ball are so big it may as well be closer to cruelty than actual non-lethal stopping power as these can literally remove a limb. Though I don't know if these really have a market in the US, they are developed more for countries like Europe.

I wonder if you could make lethal compact CO2 pistols that fire smaller projectiles. I know there are Air Pistols that are as lethal as a .22LR pistol and quieter than suppressed subsonic .22LR.

Interesting one for you OP Schientod gas pistol from the 1920s which must have been rough in Germany, ithe barrel is on a bayonet style lug and it is a single sh ot it fired 12mm 'gas' (rougly 410) shotgun shaped cartriges. The paper carton it shipped in included instructions inside the lid that the user could ascertain it's effeciency by firing it into a room and walking through it holding their breath with their eyes open, after which the user would be 'confident in it's abilities'. It was as far as I know a commercial flop. It could also fire mini flares or with an adaptor cartridges for flobert garden guns. They also made a three barreled pocket pistol version which was likley even less effecive on its first shot.To answer your question, no I would rather have a club

pic related is probably the best one. It mix all the good points of the pepper balls with the good points of a pepper spray. It shoot at very high speed a concentrated pepper spray coming from the ammunition, the range is also larger than the usual pepper spray and it can shoot 4 times before reloading.. The only downside is that they are hard to find in the US, and the ammo are super expensive due to being custom-made for it. But I think even a bear would run away from this.

I've had every less lethal used on me except bean bag shotguns and fuck that, they break bones. Pepperballs are a joke even out of a real paintball gun. It just feels like getting hit with a paintball, something I did for fun as a small child, and you cough for 2 seconds until the powder disperses. It's totally ineffective unless you're continually shooting at someone and even then it's just a distraction, it will not incapacitate. They're good for uncommitted rioters, like shooting a bunch of college girls protesting for BLM. I would not even bother on a committed criminal. Bean bag, 40, taser, or OC. Really OC is the only one practical to carry, but you'll still carry one that's too small.
