Great Leader has given you a blank cheque to design a "modern battleship." You will be executed if you refuse, or if he does not think it's "battleshippy" enough (eg, you just scaled up a typical FFG). How are you designing it?

>two triple turrets >128 cell VLS x2 >heli hangars >point defence systems out the ass >nuclear reactor >composite armor protection over magazines and machinery spaces A modern battleship would basically never use those guns for anything other than glorified missile launchers, and getting close enough to shore for coastal bombardments is suicide IMO, but it could work ok. Still a waste compared to a carrier or nuclear submarines tho.

Agreed that big-caliber naval artillery of the battleship era will never come back. The future of naval gunnery is in a subsidiary relationship to missiles, and is centered around 155 mm guided shells, railguns, directed energy beams and the like. VLS has basically become the 16-inch gun of the modern eraI really liked the late-WWII Oregon City and Des Moines-class heavy cruisers and Alaska-class large cruisers, apart from actual battleships. Also the Worcester-class 6-inch AAA cruisers. Autoloading big guns are fun

Ok we are getting rid of all of the guns, guns are gay. In their place we will have Houthis with RPG-7s. Just a wall of Houthis with RPG-7s. Let's see a ship afloat tank a wall of RPG-7s

I would basically design a ship that is half artillery platform and half drone carrier. Add laser or GPS guidance kits to the remaining stockpiles of 203mm shells, a bay with dozens of drones capable of terminal guidance, and use it for shore bombardment.

35 knot Tillman with sharper lines, radar, a bunch of VLS, CIWS, helipad(hangar holds 6 harriers), sixteen 20 inch guns in 4 quad mounts.

I build an even stupider looking Nelson with mismatched bores in quad turrets in superfiring positions and everything. Maybe I'll even stick a torpedo tube in place of one of the guns

Nuclear powered Montana class but turrets 2 & 3 are railguns and lasers and load it with VLS

A cross between Zumwalt and the BBGN. A railgun and a 5" on both front and rear, point defense lasers, 120 PVLS cells, extreme stealth features, aviation facilities for a pair of V-22s or MV-75s, flag facilities, onboard data center, and a full-scale LRDR (not SPY-7; the real deal).

Nuclear battleship that uses its unlimited energy to be stacked with FRICKIN' LAYZOR BEEMZ. Dozens of them. Ultimate anti-swarm device, big ship triumphing over the small device, Instant destruction of any incoming missile, plane, drone or speedboat.

>300mt long >4 nuclear power plants >As many chemical lasers and normal as can fit >Enough redundant system it can Have 3 reactor hit and still fight >OTHR radar, sea skiming radar, standard radar, verticaly launched drone awac >Anti torpedo drones and super cavitating torpedoes >A dozen railguns >Sea skiming hypersonic mounted as broadsides >Atleast 20 or so 70mm autocannon with binary propelant for anti air work.

Great leader we have no money! Buy an alaska class, convert it to an ESB, and then either fill the lower deck with capacitors and the upper deck with a railgun, or fill the lower deck with generators and the upper deck with CIWS lasers

I go all out, he;s the boss. I lay the biggest keel in history and buily the rest of the stucture out of gold fibreglass. My design inspiration is pic related for the superstructure but everything must be sprayed gold. It should have acrylic bubble domes and air powered t shirt cannons in 144mm with 60 foot long barrels covering every square inch and a giant RKO studios style antenna in the middle sprayed gold. Oh and it should have a sharts took style art on the prow like a nam attack helicopter or an A10. It should have giant speakers fitted beneath the decks that play 80s rap and a MASSIVE flag on the stern about 100FT in length held up by nuclear powered fans and a giant car spoiler above the rudder (gold of course)

Probably an ammo and supply platform for support. Problem: ships run out of supplies. Solutions: design a slow storage and breaktime floaty. It will be like a cruise ship but for the military and with less beds, to make room for the extra ammo and beef jerky.

This battleship is a combination siege weapon and anti drone platform. It will have long range missiles capable of targeting land and sea targets put in VLS cells or box tubes (whichever we can fit more of without compromising other weapons systems), the biggest radar system money can buy to aim them, large bore guns loaded with rocket assisted guided projectiles, can also optionally load gun launched missiles, 3inch OTO Melara style auto loading multi purpose guns,i all manner of 40mm, 20mm, and 50 caliber guns, directed by radar, for CIWS, heat seeking and radar guided anti air missiles, and a helicopter deck with a drone launcher, so we can sweep for mines and deploy drones for spotting. If we can get drones that launch from VLS tubes, perhaps we could launch our own loitering suicide drones. We'll have a heavy emphasis on deck armor, to protect from suicide drones, but still keep a strong enough belt for protect from any that attack by the sides. Spaced armor should be able to stop any of the crazy warhead schemes that work on tanks. The whole thing will need to be at least 20,000 tonnes, and will probably end up pushing 30,000 tonnes. Pushing it well past the displacement of most battleships throughout history, while also being much more capable. And of course, the class will be named after our great Dear Leader.
