Dunno if this is for here or /his/ but did pic related actually happen?
I watched it a while ago and I don't trust Netflix, is it Irish kanging or an accurate account?

Yes, but it notably leaves out that the mercs were specifically trying to take the Irish alive to use as leverage. The whole thing seems a lot less dramatic and heroic when you know Mike Hoare had ordered them to avoid Irish casualties if at all possible.

The Bren scene was totally made up and frankly fucking retarded.

this whole thing is based off one journalist doing an interview with a guy decades after the fact
>yeah man, there were like, gorillions of them, and they were shelling us and bombing us with airplanes and we killed hundreds of them and then we surrendered with no casualties
>wooow you're super cool soldier man!!!

I have no idea about the truth behind it but the movie fucking sucked

It's just the classic Fort Apache/Assault on Precinct 13/siege movie. They're usually gonna be competent at the very least. But like other anons have said it makes it too much into a clearcut western style engagement when Central African actions in the Cold War are fucking messy.Go watch Addio Africa, Dogs of War, and Wild Geese for better looks at the clusterfuck of the '3rd world' aka nonaligned or post colonial states. If you want to learn more about UN Peacekeeping operations in general, read General Romeo Dallaire's Shake Hands with the Devil. It will make you unreasonably angry at many people. I can't say I 100% support everything Paul Kagame is doing but I can understand why he is terrified of instability and he will do whatever it takes to keep Rwanda safe and stable. [Congo being the 1 place a few more arbitrary lines on a map might actually be useful instead of making the center of Africa a PvP map for 500 different ethnic groups]

It did happen, but both sides were way more competent and the UN were arguably the bad guys.https://youtu.be/_ULVh2qE8Xc

I liked it. Cold War action in an obscure conflict with Irish soldiers. You never get to see the Irish Army do anything cool. What's not to like exactly?
I guess people were expecting this to be Braveheart or something?
