My favorite story about commie economics was in TraumaZone where a laundromat in a Moscow suburb had upgraded all of their washing and drying machines so during that period the laundromat was given scrap metal quotas as part of their expected output, but after a couple years they expended all of the old units but their quotas were never updated so they had to spend money and effort to acquire scrap metal to meet their quotas or be harshly penalized for not meeting scrap metal quotas.

It seems stunningly boring. From all traning I have ever done, the best skill to have is being able to endure days if not weeks with little to do except rehearse the same five drills over and over, and then waiting around talking bullshit. Then there is a flurry of activity for two days and then back to waiting around. And somehow despite nothing to do, you still only get sleep in random broken up segments that leave exhausted.
