FAL is easier to load, has a much better selector, is easier to field strip, arguably a better charging handle and a more durable front sight. The M14 accurizes better and has a much better rear sight. Overall I prefer my M1A to my FALs.

If you have to "re-bed" your rifle to make it accurate again after taking it out of it's furniture and even go as far as glass bedding, it is just not even a contest. C stock upper and lower receiver combo is just unmatched. Even if otherwise it is a great rifle and wins in other aspects. Also the action reciprocates which is just a big no in modern battle rifles. I think this is seriously an understated flaw of many rifles including the AK.Just look at Forgotten Weapons Ian at Finnish Brutality this year. Short stoking a high end AK on a barrier he is using to stabilise off and not even realising that he is doing it. in the heat of combat and even in gay larp competition it is imperative that stick go boom no matter what its pushed up against.

No. The FAL is better, especially today when you consider all the modern upgrades to both rifles. The biggest design flaw of the FAL is the terrible iron sights, which gave it a reputation for poor accuracy. The front sight is attached to the barrel/receiver while the rear sight is attached to the lower trigger housing. This was a recipe for disaster, but is thankfully mitigated by modern optical sights which also solved the problem of rifle barrels needed to be absurdly long to increase sight radius (ironically this didn't even matter for the FAL because the front sight block is integrated with the gas block). The FAL was much more forward-thinking and innovative compared to the M14 which was already obsolete from the moment it was adopted.

The M14, FAL, and G3 all have their high and low points.An in-depth (though dated) comparison is in the book Boston's Gun Bible. He goes into detail about each one.The question you asked is affected by use. Is it for a civilian or for mass issue to soldiers? Are these going to be scoped or left with iron sights? Historically or for actual use in 2026? Etc.The M14 has the best sights and trigger. The FAL is probably the most ergonomic. The G3 is the most modular, probably the easiest to mount a scope on, and is said to be the toughest under hard use.
