What do you suggest? They can't buy the sensible option(F-35) because they're having a tantrum at the US right now.

I thought they were already on the backlog for F-35s.

Didn’t they heel and buy the f35 like 3 times already? The fuck is the point of a contract if they can bail when they’re on their period? The F35 is a domestic fighter anyway. Significant portions are/were supposed to be made there.

Why don't the just upgrade to super hornets? They're similar enough to what they already operate it should make things easier to transition.

So, same use case as Russian Air Defense Force, with an even smaller budget. >Thousands of miles of coastline and uninhabited land. >Need long range, twin-engine, data-linked missile trucks for AA interdiction and area denial. Except all those capabilities are already filled by the US. Canada is integral to NORAD, regardless of present-day politics. They do not NEED to overbuy for redundant capabilities. That said, ANG still operates F-15Cs for domestic defense. Either those or E variants.

It's time for Canada to give up, they had a good 200 years but they only have themselves to blame for destroying it all in only 20. Better to be ruled over by a mutt than a jeet.

Unironically the F-15EX would be the best option for Canaderp. >Muli-engine for redundancy on far North patrols >All the modern bells and whistles of a 4 gen+ plane >SPAMRAAM >Passenger turns into a WSO for tac fighter missions

What does Canada even need an air force for?
A
Anon09/03/26, 07:00No.65478109
Agreed. But Canada has a long and storied history of delaying large military purchases thanks to political infighting. a waffling public, and a PMO that is either extremely left-wing and/or exhibits signs of foreign manipulation.. I'm old enough to remember when they were debating whether Canada should buy the F-18. Back then we were considering the F-16 and the Panavia 'Tornado' and even thinking about buying 80 used F-14's from Iran. It's not just with our ever-shrinking air force, but all arms of the CF. This is just an example of many: >last 2 years of term, party announces plan to spend billions on a needed upgrade >opposition cries foul >we don't need it they claim >tax weary Canadians not happy they say >Press whips up social discord by publishing negatives to garner more readers >public outrage! >opposition says they'll kill purchase if voted in >gets voted in, kills purchase >meanwhile airframe loss from operational attrition continues >time passes, continue deferring >party realizes needs to be replaced >announces replacement >opposition cries foul >budget issues etc etc.. years go by and the cycle continues. Nothing changes except the darkening of our national skin colour. Being Canadian is embarrassing.Trudeau Jr promised not to buy the F-35 saying the $136 million dollar each price tag was too much but then in 2023 agrees to buy them at $216 million a piece.Goddamn my country. :-/

Canada needs a long range plane because of the large northern space. That means the F15 or more likely F35. Anything else they take fails. The Eurojank jets are small and mediums, the Su27 family is not available Except F35s are having availability problems because of a spare parts shortage and you have to suck Donald's dick to get priority. That leaves... nothing. Canada will probably just get F35s because it's the default and let most of them sit in the hangar waiting for maintenance.

Why? This is a great opportunity to ditch manned fighters completely and leapfrog other legacy nations. Drones are much easier to develop locally and Canada has Bombardier. Reroute that money to them and develop "multirole" drones. Call it Gen 3 Drones (Gen 1: WW2; Gen 2: current). Bigger drones around half the size of manned fighters, equipped with the fastest CPU and AI cores, ultrafast swarm networking link and ability to carry/control smaller dumber drones. Canada can easily field 5-10 times more aerial assets this way.

The only actual military threat to Canada is the United States, against which fixed wing assets will be of no use anyway. We shouldnt even bother with a conventional air force at all, frankly.
