Why did you leave out the part where the carrier was confined to a specific area and only allowed to move at the speed at which the sub could move undetected? Those specific subs and even our nuclear ones for that matter, can't move at the speed a carrier usually cruises at without giving its position away through sound. Tax dollar games are specifically designed for 2 reasons, training weird scenarios to learn and fear mongering for the tax payer propaganda.
