What the hell was going on with the Mauser sniper rifles?
Germans were supposed to be some autistic engineering nerds yet they come out with this "throw whatever on and hope it works" type of shit.

There's nothing wrong with the rifle in the picture. The scope is of decent quality. It's not that important.

Germany had a big private optic industry by comparison to other nations. This lend to the fact they just put different models of civilian hunting scopes on the k98k, to supplement the non-civilian scopes (which worked). Also most german non-civilian optics were trash.

It was common practice to select rifles with superior accuracy from mass-produced rifles and convert them into sniper rifles.

Have you seen their sniper rifles? Side mount? We got it. Low claw mount? Got it. High claw mount? You know we got it. To me, having a large variety of fussy and painstakingly fitted scope mountings IS autistic

Stop using Ebonics and learn something useful. Also the Mauser 98 is the pinnacle of German engineering in the sense that it is a rugged, high quality but not horrifically overengineered monstrosity like the G41, K43 or FG-42.

It did work....best optics and mounting systems in the world (at the time) .....the UK was using commercial hunting rifles with iron sights, and the US was using this:

The scopes were more important than the rifles since rifle accuracy was consistent, even relatively excessive. There wasn't additional value in doing anything other than improving scopes.
