You'd think more people would care about the region, if for no other reason than the continuing practice of pre colonial style cannibalism. A bit like the hinterlands of Myanmar or deep into the Sudans there's really wasn't a lot of contact to the outside world until they got independence. That's why there's so much wild shit in those jungles, like the Jehovah's Witness warlord cult back in the 00s or the cannibal holocaust enacted on the pygmys. Oftentimes the first person a congo villager would meet from the outside world was whoever the middleman for the Chinese or Soviets who gave out free guns that month was. That's why there's still some true warlordism in the region that even the rest of the African states don't have anymore.For example, the Simbas were still using spears well into the 60s.
