Don't like this word, it's infantilizing, like here is your high calorie pacifier / goy feed, pathologises simply eating stuff and carries a guilt tripping connotation (damn you're not hustlemaxxing your meals and it's only for your comfort! Shame on you!)In Germany we call it Hausmannskost ("home style cooking") which is slightly better. It's not perfect though because it carries a patriarchal subtext and has the same patronizing vibe telling you how you ought to feel about certain recipes.A fat superior term would be simply "favorite food" because one's favorite is individual and is what actually does the job "comfort job" supposedly does.
