It's a rule of thumb that non-threatening stuff attracts insufferable people because cuteness-as-escapism is more disconnected from reality than edginess-as-escapism. Life is filled with suffering. You can't exit Plato's cave without actually walking outside.Cuteness is a trap that the uninitiated tend to fall for very easily. Because life is filled with pain and suffering, the weak-minded often chase tranquilizers. Not unlike drug-abusers. They run away from shadows only to worship other shadows and label it as "heaven". There is nothing inherently wrong with cuteness, but people often abuse it in the pursuit of refusing to come to terms with pain and suffering.It is Christ who said we should be like little children (humble and sincere). Too many people mistake this to mean that immaturity and arrested development should be allowed.

Ito can see that life is filled with suffering and he laughs! Not out of cruel mockery or to punch down, but because he finds the humor and joy in it. His works often draw a thin line between horror and comedy for that reason. He has come to terms with the darkness and so he smiles, not allowing the harshness of life to take away his joy.Araki on the other hand does not settle for projecting an idyllic illusion to play pretend in or an exaggerated simulacra meant for processing. He goes a step further and declares a fight with Suffering (Satan/the Demiurge)...and he wins. The suffering is not eternally banished and the world is not purified of it...but the Dharma can be restored anew.

Honestly drawing mostly female characters is gonna get you troon followers eventually. I've gotten comments and quote retweets going "I WANT TO BE HER" in response to my wholly cute art, sexy pinups, or literal joke artworks that happen to feature females.
