Saw a vid about focusing on values/tones instead of detail. Tried to follow.I didn't know what to do with the reference, but tried to shade the main area (a triangle in the middle), then darken and lighten wherever appropriate.Tbh, the process felt more random than anything. Darken here and there and then smudge.Share your thoughts/critiques. Any advice is greatly appreciated, since all I find anyway is just "draw the fundamental shapes."

The artist called "dinoart" had an impressive growth. In 2021 or so his art was really rough, /beg/ tier, but by 2023 and nowadays his art is top tier, beautiful. I just started properly a month ago. I hope I achieve that level in a similar or lesser time frame. Deus lo vult.

first time doing a something piece on digitali didnt use any reference for the pose and just made it up on the spot and looking back at it now i see that her right arm is retracted back like crazy and her upper arm does not line up whatsoever so i still paid for not using referencei was gonna have the harkonnen cannon the thing she was carrying but later on i found it would be to big and would not fit well with what ive already drawn o algo so i just gave up on itim still working on clothing folds and stuff but if anyone has advice for how to draw with weapons and drawing knees because i still find it hard to draw them while the leg is straight

When I'm doing a color study, is it better to try to find colors on the pallet and make them all together to mesh like paint?OrGrab similar colors, put them on a separate layers and just smudge them for soft areas but leave some areas that are hard?Trying to do one of the sky with clouds and there's a lot of colors. In my everlasting quest for figuring out why my art looks so retarded, I decided to take the main color and shading that I normally use when drawing anime girls, and compare it to the main color and shading that artists I like use. This was somewhat eye opening; I always used a more pinkish tone for my skin, and assumed shading must be blue-ish. But it seems a lot of artists I like tend to use a more yellowish skin tone, and rather red shading, for the most part. I'll make sure to use this yellowish skin with red shading in my next drawing, and see if it looks closer to the works of these artists.
